Anyone studying for the CFA?

I am looking for work as a financial analyst, and I want to start studying CFA materials in the meantime. The books linked below are available on Craigslist for $50 - does anyone know if they are a good resource? Should I instead get the Schweser notes off eBay? http://www.amazon.com/Program-Curric...6819819&sr=8-1

For level 1, I bought the CFA books and ended using almost only the Schweser notes so I would strongly suggest going with those instead.

CFA makes you buy their own curriculum now, but I don't know anyone that's actually used them. 95% use schweser, and the other 5% use Stalla.

Use schweser. No class is necessary til Level 3. For Level 3 a class is helpful to learn how to answer the written stuff.

My bigger recommendation, however, would be to consider whether you really wanna take the tests. L1 and L2 are worth nothing if you don't pass L3, and L2 and L3 *KILL* your spring for two years. It blows.

I finished last year, and am unsure whether it was worth it, with a bias towards not worth it. One the other hand, many companies now require you to pursue it.

Yuppie, What was your major as an undergrad? As an econ major myself, I don't know if I will be able to accomplish my goals without a Charter. I will look into these Schweser notes, but I can only find them on eBay for ~$150.

Step 1 is to move into a job that is as close as possible to your goal. CFA takes 3 years...

I have an engineering degree.

I'd say this is pretty typical of Charterholders (myself included). By the time you realize that it's not worth it (somewhere around L3), you've already invested so much effort that you might as well finish it off.

Unless you're pursuing a particular field where it has recognized value (equity research, maybe asset management) - totally not worth it.

Torrents are your best bet if you don't mind violating some of their ethical standards.
