The Official Baltimore Orioles Thread of Futility

Thread Starter
I know there are only about 75 Orioles fans left in the world, but apparently at least 3 or 4 of them are here on StyleForum. I have been struggling to come to grips with the O's futility over the years, but this season has been a bit much on my weakened heart.

On the advice of my therapist, and similar advice once given to me by my mother, I have decided to confront our spectacular suckitude head-on. I will attempt to focus on the pain and anguish, like you might on an aching head, hoping that by really trying to understand the nature of the pain it will morph into something else more tolerable, and that something might be learned in the process.

So we'll start today with a few images from the past week or two of Oriole baseball:

Tillman has to go back to double A. He's younger than Matusz and needs more time to develop against better competition than triple A. I like David Hernanez in the closer role more than I do Simon, I don't understand why so many people are high on Simon. Cut Garrett Atkins immediately I don't care if you have to call up Calvin Pickering or Walter Johnson, Atkins is beyond a bust.

Also, You won't get Bobby V here, he wants to win. Eric Wedge hasn't shown me anything that makes me think he'll be a difference maker. Believe it or not I'd like to see Ray Miller back as Pitching Coach and I think we need to fire Terry Crowley.

They'll be good in two years. Like the 04 Tigers.

No, these type of Orioles have nothing inside...they leave their fans feeling hollow too.

Go for the beer and Boog's, and don't pay attention to what's happening on the field. You'll feel a lot better.

I rather enjoy the legacy of crappiness. Lets me go sit behind home plate for $10, barring red sox and yankees games when the douche migration occurs.

How does everybody on the whole effing team take a giant step backwards? That said, Matuz is coming around and Arrietta looks good. Now if they only had som run support...

I think they put too much emphasis on Brian Roberts being out. This isn't a one guy team, sure he's a great lead off hitter, but if the guys behind you are hitting .260 you can't do too much.

The bullpen is a disaster. Why Alberto Castillo was allowed to remain on this team so long boggles my mind. I still remember when the pen was reliable, Orasco, Mills, Rhoades, Benitez (yes there was a reliable bullpen with Benitez) and Myers. Great bullpen in 96, better in 97. Too many failed starters in this pen.

hey thats not fair... watching the orioles get robbed by the yankees during the Jeffrey Maier game only solidified my hatred of the Evil Empire/Motherfucking Yankees (MFY). when i watched the redsox a ton during my childhood (80's-early 90's) the yankees sucked and I never really understood why my dad hated the yankees (he just immigrated to the states/boston and suffered through the bucky motherfucking dent game ect). these things are cyclical. eventually the yankees will fall again (remember the late 80's-early 90's) and the orioles will.. (ah who am i kidding damn the orioles are in the dumps).

You forgot Sam Horn./ What if they just tried to re-sign Aubrey Huff? What an improvement that would have been!

Boo-effing-Hoo. While the O's are certainly hapless this year and are no great shakes in their history, they have some ways to go to join the elites of MLB futility. If I may, let me quote a few stats: (All stats include all predecessor franchises) Number of Seasons: Orioles--110 Texas/Washington--50 Washington/Montreal--42 Seattle--34 Winning Percentage: Orioles--.474 Rangers--.470 Nationals--.476 Mariners--.470 Hall of Fame Players/Total Players Orioles--26/1635 Rangers--4/906 Nationals--2/770 Mariners--3/617 And the coup de grace... Pennants/World Series Titles: Orioles--7/3 Rangers--0/0 Nationals--0/0 Mariners--0/0 You even suck at sucking. My Texas Rangers are among the elite of MLB suckitude.

O's have a very rich history. That's why them sucking hurts so much more.
