This is an interesting article on luxury mattresses.

Earl Kluft, chief executive of E.S. Kluft, a family-owned company based in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., says it takes 10 craftsmen about three days to make the Palais Royale, which contains 10 layers and more than 10 pounds of cashmere, mohair, silk and New Zealand wool that has been washed, dried and crimped. Natural latex foam and certified organic cotton are among the materials used to reduce motion transfer and provide cooling. The Sublime has a layer of horsehair for resiliency.

"We really want the consumer to get a better night's sleep," Mr. Kluft says. "When you think about it, the mattress is the most important thing in your house. You spend more time on your bed than anywhere else."

You spend more time each day on your mattress than in your car. Makes sense to buy top of the line, IMO.

Hastens makes one that is twice as much.

Oddly enough my bed is called Palais Royale but I sure don't have a Palais Royale mattress. I think my serta cloud does the job.

Nope, that's a complete bed including boxsprings. The Vividus. If you want one, i'd be more than happy to have it shipped to you. You can just paypal me the $$$.

Just read the article. That mattress is a serious POS. Mixing latex sheets with all natural materials makes no sense at all. It's the most overpriced mattress I've ever read about.

So it's basically just a Tempurpedic with some fancy fabrics piled on top? Simmons black label ftw

Nope, latex is not tempurpedic.

$33,000 and a lifespan of 7-10 years? I would want at least double or tripple that.

Everything the mattress industry tries to sell you is a lie. There is very little difference between a cheap mattress and an expensive mattress other than brand name. http://www.slate.com/id/93956/

Innerspring mattresses, particularly the Big S's (Simmons, Serta, Sealy), dominate the market. But how to choose among Serta and Sealy, Stearns and Foster, and King Koil? Or for that matter, between the Simmons Beautyrest Exceptionale Lenore and the Simmons Beautyrest Do-Not-Disturb Royalty Ultra? Here's the lowdown: Mattress makers rename identical products for each different retail store. Different labels, exact same guts. Why? Obfuscation. It's hard to shop for the lowest price when you can't compare apples to apples. Lucky for you, they're all subtle variations on the same apple—not only within each brand, but even among different brands.

I get the best sleep on my cheapass Ikea platform mattress. I also hate soft mattresses though.

That may very well be so, and granted my current mattress was only a few thousand bucks, not $30,000. But I can tell you that it is far more comfortable than the cheaper mattresses I had previously.

For $33,000, what girls does the mattress come with?
