Trench coats, Australia

Hi,

I stay in Melbourne, Australia and can't seem to find any decent men's trench coats or business coats (which all seem to be plain, black, and cheap wool).

I was looking on GQ, and came across these coats:

GQ250609_Shops-Oct-088-copy.jpg

Coat by Self, £110 ~AUD 187

GQ250609_Shops-Oct-073-copy.jpg

Coat by Ben Sherman, £130 ~ AUD 220

Where in Australia could I buy these coats? They seem so nice and inexpensive as well compared with the lousy, expensive nonsense we get here. Do I have to go to Europe to find these?

Regards,

That second one is sweet... Not on the Ben Sherman website though.

Both coats look quite nice.

I heard oxford sell trench coats. They don't seem too bad. Country Road and Anthony Squires usually sell them too.

I work for a menswear store that sells Ben Sherman I'll see if its possible to order one for you if you're interested. Australia usually has a different (inferior range) of Ben Sherman than the UK and/ perhaps the quality wouldn't be the best either but its worth a try. Why don't you try looking at second hand Burberry or Aquascutum on Ebay?

Good suggestion.
Clearly, there is a small risk of getting a fake but, if you're careful, you can pick up a great, really well made trenchcoat for cents in the dollar when compared to the original retail price.

Indeed Oxford do have some decent trench coats (that's about all though). I have 2, a beige SB classic design (which I'm wearing today in Canberra's shocking 11 degree and rainy weather) and a DB Navy which is slightly shorter and a bit lighter weight.

The outlet here is full off them at around $100-$125, so if there is one near you I'd suggest getting in there before they go.

Cheers

Hi neyus,

I would be interested in ordering the Ben Sherman coat through you if you could.
Do you know what coat it is and how much it would be? Which store do you work at?

regards,

I wouldn't regard either of the coats as "trench coats," (far too short). I don't believe trench coat serves the same purpose as a wool coat. You wear wool to stay warm, trench coats to stay dry.
