I've been looking for a raincoat/single breasted trench coat (I know that's a bit of an oxymoron) for a while and never found one in my price range and/or in the style I want. Then I came across this.

I've used Land's End for small stuff - basic socks, undershirts, etc. - but not for any "real" clothing. The price seems too good to be true, though. Are Land's End jackets/clothing typically of decent quality? Or will this thing leave me soaked?

they are waterproof and fit reasonably well. they do, however, feel unmistakeably thin and cheap. i have one that acts as a placeholder until i get something nicer. sigh.

I like that the design of the coat is very simple and uncluttered. It's just nice and basic.

You cannot go wrong for the price. Lands' End offers an iron-clad no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. It's that simple. And they really mean it.

Go for it, man!

I've ordered many Lands' End dress shirts, ties, pants (mostly casual), a few sweaters, and a few pair of suede bucks. Overall, the shirts, ties, and pants are of exceptional quality for the price paid and I'm also very happy with the white bucks and tan bucks. The only shoes I'm not happy with are a pair of brown suede wingtips I ordered late last year--the suede appears to be of very cheap quality. Even though I've worn the shoes for several months now, I know I can send them back for a full refund . . . but I don't think I'd feel good about doing that.

But, seriously, other than that, I have no complaints about their merchandise.

It's never going to be among the nicest things in your wardrobe, but most Lands End products are light-years ahead of everything else at their price-point, in terms of quality and construction.

I find their OCBDs and a lot of their ties to be on about the same level as--dare I say it on SF?--Polo Ralph Lauren. LE's products are indeed very well made and their OCBDs and a lot of their ties convey that same preppy attitude as PRL.

Some LE items are definitely expensive. About four years ago, they had a men's shearling coat that was priced at $1500 and a cashmere overcoat at $1000. LE also has cashmere seaters selling for about $200+ LE also has some other brands, as well: right now, they have two styles of Allen Edmonds leather soled dress shoes on their website for $325 each.

Agreed, however I'm currently wearing one of their tailored fit OCBDs and a madras tie from Canvas, so I may lack both impartiality and credibility.

I always have to chime in when it comes to endorsing lands end... it is simply the best price/quality ratio I've ever come accross and the customer service is great. I dont have any outerwear from them, but my wife has a winter jacket that seems like it is excellent quality. Go for it.

You actually can go wrong at any price.

So instead of buying something that may not last long or fit well, pass on this and put the $50 or $60 towards a rain coat of more substance.

This.

Keep in mind this thing is 100% polyester. It is the equivalent of wrapping yourself in a garbage bag. Yes, water cannot get in, but neither can air get in - or out.

Buy it.
I've used them for t-shirts, un-logoed polos and outerwear - which in my experience is indestructible.

Yes, your're right but, technically, they call it microfibre these days, not polyester.

I look at it this way: this coat is a better value for $54.99 then other similar quality coats for a few dollars more. The OP can't afford to spend a lot of money right now and this price is, for him, reasonable.

Something like this?

Ok, so it's overpriced Burberry. Still, if you need a coat now, I would get the Lands end.
