Sorry to be a nuisance, I just don't get it

As I said (or meant to say), mine were old comfortable BD (buttondown) shirts which were fraying at the back 'U' part of the collar. The collar is detached, flipped over and re-attached, with the frayed section now underneath. Since they're BDs, the collar stay stiching issue is moot. You're correct, this repair method doesn't appear to be a viable option for a shirt w/ stays, but a good tailor might have be able to offer you an alternative solution....
