I am going to be getting my first bespoke suit made in a couple weeks by Gordon Yao. I have been looking around to come up with a picture to help me express the fit that I am after. I found this picture off of the Sartorialist and really love the fit. Definitely things about the suit I would change for myself. (Notch lapels instead of peak, straight pockets instead of hacking, no ticket pocket). Also, might see what GY things but go with a softer shoulder.

Anyways, curious as to what people thing of the cut of this suit? Thanks for the help.

The silhouette seems nice although the shoulders seem a bit heavy and extended for me. Just be sure to clearly specify which parts of the photo you like.

Thanks David, yes that is what I though too. I would prefer to go with a softer shoulder myself.

Aside: I actually think the tastefully balanced peaked lapels are one of the cooler details of that suit. But it's an understandable feature to omit for your own suit. Because the pictured gentleman is nominally in motion, the photo might not be ideal for a silhouette photo. But you could certainly use it to give your tailor an idea of the look you are going for. I think his left shoulder looks perfect, to my tastes. The right one looks like it does not sit as flat/has more roping, but I can't tell whether that is just an illusion induced by motion and perspective. One thing that I don't think the photo illustrates clearly, and that you should consider and discuss with your tailor, is how open you want the quarters of your jacket.

Not bad. However, I can't take my eyes off of that bloke's teeth.

Your money means your choice not mine or anyone else here. Indeed without a picture of you one could not begin to determine whether that would look good (or bad).

Either way Gordon will do a good job for you, he can be recommended.

It seems completely unremarkable, to be quite honest. I would not be surprised if it were some run-of-the-mill RTW.

You've asked for this... Show us something you consider remarkable and tell us why

I've made my tastes and preferences pretty well-known around here. But the point is that the OP doesn't indicate anything in particular he likes about the suit he posted and it's hard to imagine what a tailor could possibly take away from looking at that picture of it. I myself see nothing special about it, but anyone is free to enlighten me as to what I'm missing.

I'dve thought inconspicuous and unremarkable would've been more your style.

No. I don't much care if something is conspicuous or not. There are a number of adjectives you could apply to how I dress, but it certainly isn't inconspicuous in the average crowd.

I think it looks great, not particulary my style but still very nice.

Thanks, for the advice everybody. I'll have to do a little more research about is how I would like the quarters.

Reason I like this photo is because it demonstrates the fit and silhouette that I like. The suit isn't too tight nor too fitted. I just like the suit a lot. Instead of saying not too fitted and not too loose I hope this picture helps me convey what I want to my tailor.

As far as the suit not being too remarkable I am not trying to make my suit stand out in a crowd. Personally, I rather people not notice anything about my suit and just think he is well dressed and cares about his appearance, etc. I just want my suit too be well made, fit as perfectly as possible, and have fun with my first entry into the world of bespoke clothing.

OP, because the compression artefacts in your avatar picture are annoying the hell out of me, please save this version to your hard drive and upload it as your new avatar picture. Thanks.

PS: looks to be a completely ordinary suit albeit one that appears to be well fitted, and to my tastes - very well fitted. Quarters look as though they might be relatively closed should he take his hand out of his pocket. There are small things that influence the overall perception of this suit, such as the relation of the lapels to the face, that subtly distinguish this. Is this an example of GY's work?
