Every guy in every picture was wearing an untucked blue oxford shirt.

A few months ago, I decided I will never again wear a blue oxford without a tie, and this is exactly why:
Someone I know posted birthday party pics Facebook, so I took a look.
He lives largely a blue collar/lower-middle class town (few professionals)..
4 white guys all wearing an untucked blue oxford shirt (with jeans)
Maybe some had stripes, but it was all the same look.
I would love to see how many had black square-toed shoes. I bet most.

I'm going to make what's sure to be a controversial statement for SF, but I think most pale caucasian men look wretched in light blue.

stfu doodz... are you saying I look wretched 90% of the time... I thought the whole us being facebook friends meant we were actual friends.

Basing your decision on a piece of clothing upon the fact people of a lower 'status' than you wear it is imbecilic.

I don't think he's doing that. The key phrase there was "it was all the same look" and I think most of us can imagine how cringe-inducing it is to see a group of grown men dress like they all go to the same store. Might as well just announce to the world that you have no individuality whatsoever.

Correct, the idea was that they were all dressed exactly the same. The class/status was mentioned only to reflect that blue oxford shirts cross across all social/class barriers. It is perhaps the most generic and invisible choice of shirt a man can make today. Perhaps like a fedora of the 1940s.

I attended my sister's graduation this sping at a very nice southern school, and approx 90% of the guys there wore blue oxford shirts and khakis. It was bizarre, because the 90% is not an exaggeration. Unbelievable conformity.

Well, I think it's fine, but blue oxford & khakis must be considered a BLANK CANVAS. It must be dressed up.
A tie or pair of shoes could be the focus.
Saddle shoes, spectator, even wingtips...
knit tie, or ANY tie....
A blazer.
Even some sort of snazzy/wild belt.
Something.
Anything.
Else, you might as well be a clueless 22 year old.

That is all I was going to say on this topic.

Well I'm going to continue to wear blue or white OCBD shirts with jeans or khakis and I'm caucasian.

Hah I thought of this thread today. Saw a guy that could have been plucked right out of this picture you described.

Was in the elevator at a hospital and a guy about early 20s (to my mid 20s) walks in with 4 other young ladies. I believe they were students, but not sure. He was wearing those chunky mall brand leather casual dress shoes (I have no real idea what to call them). His chino/blue oxford fit actually wasn't bad. But as another poster said, it's just that basic blank canvas and nothing interesting.

The ladies were talking about how he was dressed up nice and wished their BFs would dress nicer more often. Since I was getting off on the next floor I just made a quick comment "ban sandals and cargo shorts, that's a start". They seemed to agree.
