I'm looking forward to it of course but on the one hand, I'm going to be a little sad because by 1964, I'm really not sure they can still use the late 1950s, skinny lapel + tie look now. Some characters will have to start trending towards the 70s right?

I guess the good thing is Roger Sterling will always dress Roger Sterling and so will Joan.

It looks like there will be one additional male character and I think I read one additional female. I wonder how long Cosgrove will hang around - maybe just to bridge the gap? Although I wish they will start out in the hotel room again, but chances are they'll have a makeshift office now. Pryce is now a regular so hopefully he's not there just as a British foil and plot device to keep things going.

I also read more focus will be on the Betty-Sally relationship. More mother-daughter teaching? Here Sally, this is how you get a divorce.

There's got to be a mention of the Beatles somewhere down the line..

I feel like the show will have to address these historical events, I am sure they'll mention the Beatles, but I just don't think Matt Weiner will let it be huge. He addressed the Kennedy somewhat unwillingly from what i can recall.

United States Surgeon General Luther Leonidas Terry reports that smoking may be hazardous to one's health (the first such statement from the U.S. government).

The New York Worlds Fair

Civil Rights act of 1964

Not necessarily. Since most of the main characters are men in their late 20's and 30's I think they're style is pretty much set in stone. In general I don't guys try to follow big trends unless their young and still trying to find their identity, or are having a mid life crisis.

that and the 70s are still 6 years away. teh hippies haven't even landed yet

Apparently EW is printing something in the upcoming magazine but no real news on plot

Looks pretty much the same as before. Good for skinny guys like me who can claim Hollywood inspiration for maintaining my 2.5-3" ties

I do agree that Pete will stay in whatever his bosses are going to wear.

I'm curious to see what will happen to those who were left behind at Sterling/Cooper. Were Ken and Paul essentially written out of the show?

the article quotes Matthew Weiner as saying: "The theme of the season is "˜Who am I?' It's about stripping away the things that these people think define them. Once they're taken away, they just may have to look at who they really are."

Imagine the opportunities with Pete.

At the end of season 3, didn't Don move into an apartment in the Village? That should prove to be an interesting plotline. The most culturally/artistically/chemically/politically/fashionably influential decade of the 20th Century begins to really pick up speed in 1964. Feb 1964 marks the Beatles on Sullivan. Mary Quant invents the miniskirt in early 1965. Should be a good season. An amazing series.

I thought the wife left the house with the baby. Don't remember anything about an apartment in the village, but the whole thing's a blur.

IMO it's high time the series got an overarching storyline. We have too much stop-and-go without really developing the plot or the characters. How many times does Don have to cheat on Betty, have her find out, then have them reconcile only to have the whole thing repeat before it gets sterile? Why spend an entire season building up tension about the British takeover only to suddenly and inexplicably cut off the leg of the new office head and remove him from the series before going in another direction entirely? What was gained by removing Joan from the office for an entire season while she looked after her simpering loser husband, a totally dull and flat character?

Subplots need to exist in relation with the overarching plot. An example of this working very, very well was the Peggy-Pete relationship/pregnancy/adoption/Catholicism story. Lately it seems like the series is made up entirely of subplots (bar this move to create a new ad agency) and has lacked artistic direction.

Hippie thing started in the mid 60's. 1967 was the Summer of Love, and Woodstock was 1969.

yah, the beatniks are starting to devolve at this point. all's i'm saying is that the 70s aren't gonna be influencing this season's dress code.

Makes sense.
