I cut off the end of the anchors with wire cutters and then screwed the brackets into the anchors. They're in far enough to be solidly mounted imo.

that should work. there's still hope for you yet.

Cordless (especially a weak 14.4v) will fail at concrete drilling. A corded hammer drill is usually inexpensive. Pretty much anything with a keyless chuck should be good to go. Check garage/yard sales as people are ALWAYS getting rid of tools they use once or twice on the CHEAP. A Factory reconditioned DeWalt is another option as well.

Threads like these make me glad that my dad took me along to a lot of his projects and construction sites during my summers. He always included me in any project around the house including electrical, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and car work. When I was 9 he left me in a backhoe to dig out a hole for a septic tank at a house site while he went to go take a crap.

Measure twice, cut once. Be prepared - Make one trip to Home Depot or whatever. Eye protection is serious business or you can learn the hard way when metal flakes are in your eyes....

You need a hammer drill, a concrete bit and those inserts that you hammer into the concrete. When it comes to mostly everything mechanical, I'd just rather do it myself and have it done correctly.

I would use the lead anchors. Better, I think, for concrete.

actually.. depending how "soft" the concrete is, you can just use a concrete nail and hammer that basterd in and it should hold if its not that heavy.

So if I decided to buy a hammer drill and mount the projector myself, is there something I could use to help make sure I drill in straight and make a clean hole? The holes I drilled for my speakers weren't the best. It was partly because of the difficulty I had drilling, but since this is going to be a ceiling mount of an expensive piece of equipment that I don't want to fall, I'd want to do it right...

Also, if i used lead anchors, how would i remove them when I moved out in a couple of years or whatever?

Some drills have a spirit level build into them. This might help you to drill in straight. I think it would be a good idea for you to start out by drillling a small, not toooo deep 0.1-0.2 inches/0.2-0.4 cm wide hole. It will help you to fixate the drill intended to go through the wall. It makes everything easier. You could also start out like just mentioned, then change to a slightly wider drill and go in a little bit further. Continue this procedure untill you hit the drill size you need. If you are really really unconfident I suggest you find an 'out of sight' spot to practice. Remember to buy the right kind of anchors for the job and also to clean the holes beforte you stick 'em in. When you move out, let the lead anchors be but cover the holes with wall filler (I'm not english, so I don't know if this is the right words). Good luck.
