Gas Thieves

My neighbor just got most of the gas from her pick-up emptied. She had three quarters fulled, or about $30 in gas. Just curious, how common is this and how do they do it? This is really disturbing.

It's not extremely common, but it's not a new phenomenon by any means. This has been going on for as long as cars have been on the road.

It's easy to siphon if you don't mind getting a little gas in your mouth. All you need is a long hose and something to put the gas into (another car). This is why fillers on cars are usually lockable in modern cars.

This was happening around these parts when gas prices were approaching $4/gallon awhile back, not so much now.

Not new by any means, you mostly see it when gas prices get a lot higher. Not only do most cars/trucks/SUV's have a locking gas cap/lid they almost all have an anti-siphon devise placed into the filler hose above the gas tank. The bad part about that is that the thieves started punching a hole in the bottom of the tank and getting the gas that way. So not only do you loose whatever gas you had you have to get a new gas tank as well.

When we reach the oil crisis, gas siphoning will become an every day occurrence. Since humans are overpopulated, it will be difficult to find food sources when production and transportation slow due to the oil shortage. Markets will no longer be able to provide and that is the only source for many.
