Irritated spots while shaving, HELP! - Page 2

Agree with the above point - shave with the grain - sometimes the grain on the neck hairs runs sideways, not always up / down. Just let your beard grow a little and check which way the hair grows - shave in this direction with a DE blade (check youtube for instructions from a guy called mantic (?)). Prepare the skin prior to shaving, it may loosen an potentially ingrowing hairs and softens the beard for shaving. Change the blade every 2-3 days (2-3 shaves).

The change that made the biggest difference for me was stopping shaving, it stops the irritation right away. If you'd still like some irritation instead of getting rid of it altogether, you can just reduce the frequency of which you shave.

Try one of the 4 blade razors, they cost allot but there made to not irritate as much as others. Take a shower, shave after the shower. Use a good shaving cream (not a gel). Make sure the razor is sharp. This stuff costs a $1 and is allot better then most of the $5-7 gel's the store sells. Find out which way your hair grows on your neck. If I shave down it I get all ingrown hairs so I have to shave up it. I have both a DE safety razor and the traditional badger brush and soap. The 4 blade razor and Barbasol is my goto when im running late, and honestly its giving me just as good of a shave.

I had sensitive skin when I was a teen and would often get razor bumps until someone told me to stop shaving upwards. I have not had a problem since.

I am sure the other stuff helps, but try this first. You might be surprised.

I have realiced, now that got a 3 days beard that in my right part of my neck the hair goes upwards and downwards on the left.

Can this be for real or just an illusion?

I use Biotherm foam, it's 20 euros a spray!

I got a sample of biotherm Aquapower moisturizing, never tried one. I´ll use later after my shower and shave.

Thanks

I've had some serious issues with shaving as well; in-grown hairs, spots, which just becomes a vicious cycle when you shave with already problematic skin.

When moving away from the latest a million-blade-per razor typ of Gillette razor and back to the basic disposable ones, it did wonders. Still not perfect but much better.

I'm actually considering investing in a "good" electrical shaver since I've heard this is the way to go with sensitive skin.

Try switching to a DE razer and quality soap. I've always had easily irritated skin shaving with a Fusion razer, but not since switching to a DE. Good preshave prep is essential, it makes the whiskers softer and easier to cut which eases irritation.

Switch to an electric and keep it clean and sharp.

I tried a sample of Biotherm aquapower today, was greasy.

Still got spots. Can this be due that I shave every 3 days or so and the hair may irritate me while sleeping?

This is the correct answer in my case. I have had zero irritation, ingrown hairs etc. since making the switch. It does take longer but for me it is totally worth it. Just letting the weight of the razor and the angle of the blade do the cutting made all the difference.

Or, try switching to an electric razor. They don't shave as close so one doesn't get as much irritation or ingrown hairs if one is prone to those things. I went this route and have much success.
