film "VANISHING POINT"

recently ran across this movie purely by accident,and to say the least i have been thinking about it a lot.i dont think its widely known (i didnt know it and i consider myself a bit of a film buff). thats why i wanted to let people know about it. Tarantino mentioned it in an article somewhere that it inspired Bulletproof (ripped off) and i looked it up. im going to include the original trailer from the 70s which is extremely cheesy (ala grindhouse style) and does not do the film justice so i will include a second trailer that someone set to a very fitting song. anyway watch it,i think it may change you,im not going to give away the end or the symbolism (theres lots of it read up on it AFTER you watch it). lets just say its about much more then a guy driving a car. oh and theres also a really hot naked blonde (completely naked) riding a motorcycle in the desert in one scene if you need more convincing original trailer

yes,a very important scene, i saw both versions,definitely watch the UK version

she symbolizes something (i think you know) but i dont wanna spoil it for others

Great flick. Big part of my childhood. (I had a very cool father.)

The part with the rabbits never made sense - I need to revisit this and catch the British version.

This and the original "The Getaway" are really superb.

This film and The Blues Brothers were recommended to me by my dad when I was about 12. I loved them both instantly and still do today. Excellent stuff, and a shame VP isn't better known. I'd say it edges out Two Lane Blacktop as it's an easier film to watch,with (arguably) more substance to it and thus more immediate appeal. Not to mention the uber-cool DJ guy..."the last American hero".

As an aside, Primal Scream did a pretty nice album inspired by this movie, sort of a soundtrack after the fact. Couple of tracks from it are also on their best-of.

Saw it in theater when originally released; watch it once in awhile now on dvd.

Yeah, great movie. I saw it a couple of times when it was out in the theaters back in the early 70s.

Dad suggested this one to me. I think I first saw it on VHS or LaserDisk or something.

Definitely watch Two-Lane Blacktop next. It has Warren Oates and Harry Dean Stanton (towering pillars of 70s cinema), and one of the best endings of any film, ever.

Also, James Taylor and Dennis Wilson are the surprisingly good lead actors.

The director (Monte Hellman) only made a handful of films. In addition to being the (uncredited) second unit director on the original Robocop, he did another film with Warren Oates and Harry Dean Stanton. It's called Cockfighter. As you might have guessed, it's about cockfighting in the South, and it's one awesome ******* movie.

Has to be one of my favorites. I love how his mission went from delivering the car to fighting authority as the last american hero, pretty deep . I doubt its intended though but its my view on it.

Anyone see the made for tv remake? They changed (butchered) the story, of course, but it was the first time I think I became aware of Viggo Mortensen, so I'll always remember it.

Coincidentally(?), the popular blogs A Continuous Lean & The Selvedge Yard both had recent features concerning Two-Lane Blacktop.
