Just watched the finale. Holy hell, that series ruled. 6 episode mini-series was exactly perfect.

I can't think of another drama series this year that has been better.

I randomly watched one episode Saturday night, it was entertaining but wasn't hooked or anything. Will try another since the SF crowd approves.

For a second during the Golden Globes I thought Idris Elba would have won the Best Performance By An Actor in a Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television award.

But then Hollywood kicked in.

I caught it one Sunday a few weeks back when BBC America was running a marathon. I thought it was really good.

I liked the chick, she's hot.

The show itself is kinda farfetched at times, but still very enjoyable.

I just discovered this show yeaterday. I have to say that episodes 1 and 2 were very entertainign. If you have comcast, it's on demand, and it's also streaming on Netflix.

The Wire was overflowing with fantastic actors, many whom you won't even notice again in future projects. McNulty is played by an Irishman (or is it Scottish?) with a strong as **** accent.

Despite his obvious charisma, I thought Idris Elba's performance as Stringer Bell was the weakest part of the Wire. He had a reasonable American accent but never came up with a plausible street dialect. I never bought him as a gangbanger. He never had great chemistry with the other members of the Barksdale crew. He was supposed to be someone who was trying to rise above his background and failed. He came off as some alien middle class guy who just looked down on his surroundings which completely undercut what was supposed to be the central tragedy of the show.

The character in Luther came across as someone who was on the edge of irrationality at all times. Seemed a little overblown, but maybe that was the writing.

Carcetti was the Irishman on the Wire.
