Yes, I'm that rude. Now, the friend is a student so I don't want to ask for anything expensive (above $25) or [too] difficult to get through customs. I'm thinking wine. But there's got to be something else. Halp!

Steak. Seriously. When he leaves the airport there will be plenty of duty free steak stores. Just don't tell them you're going to the U.S.

I'll ask for one in his carry-on. He's already regaled me with stories...

I thought about steak but wondered how he'd transport them. I'll look into duty free steak.

The best stories I've heard always start "Yeah in Brazil..." What about Argentina?

You can buy steak right in the terminal and they package it very well in a cooler but you can't buy much with $25. I think it was around $25/lb. I got a cheezy yerba mate gourd, straw and tea for my brother. Maybe soccer paraphernalia if you're a fan.

25 bucks will buy you a pretty fair bottle of wine. I've brought back music, too. foot ball and rugby jerseys. steak works, but it won't be very much steak for that. and you can buy it in the airport
