What to eat before an early morning workout? - Page 3

If you are biking for an hour...whatever. I used to go to cyclocross practice and have coffee after/eat when I got home. Yesterday I did a 2 hour detour on my commute and ate when I got to work (and other days I eat cereal before doing the normal 6mile commute).

If you are doing a century...then you gotta eat (well you gotta eat during the ride too...) but otherwise before or after shouldn't matter as long as you are hydrated.

I go running 2-3 days a week at 5am. I don't eat or drink anything beforehand, because I hate getting side stitches. I make a point of voiding my fuckin bowels before leaving the house, too, to be as light and nimble as possible. I'm like a fuckin lynx. I run a fast mile, then a seemingly endless regimen of sprints. A lesser man would whimper.

For an hour of cycling, you could skip the food; or you could eat a whole pizza and hold in a big crap and it wouldn't really make an clit hair's difference. I'm implying that a morning bike ride is for pussos.

On O-lift days, I eat a bowl of cereal with whole milk and drink a bunch of mate before warming up. I usually take a latrine break 30 minutes in.

I like to occasionally have a bit of protein/simple carb mix shake before morning cardio - but only if it is HIIT in which case you burn the fat throughout the day moreso than with constant cardio in the 130-150bpm range. If it is just easy jogging or cycling, I don't drink a shake before. Before lifting, you better be drinking a shake or having a couple of bananas. Your body needs the energy. Avoid slow-digesting solids. Bananas are probably the fastest absorbing solid I know of so you will not be cramping up if you wait 15 minutes before heading to the gym.
