There are better cars for the track, and far better cars for the road.

Bottom line? The Maserati stirs the soul, the Porsche is like operating an appliance. A very good appliance that goes very fast, but an appliance nonetheless.

At 4.7 seconds to 60 stock (ours has the full gamut of Formula Dynamics modifications), the Maserati isn't a supercar - and unlike on other car forums, you won't find any owners pretending it is. But an exotic? In rarity, price, production numbers origin, bloodlines, sound, emotions, head-turning, soul, and build quality it certainly is. And a 1/4 mile in the high 12's ain't bad either for a daily driver.

But don't take my word for it. Ask the ten people per commute that hang out their windows like idiots with cameraphones going. Or the lips you can read of people driving by that say "Holy shit, it's a Maserati." Or the crowd of people gathered around your car every single time you come out of a restaurant. Or the countless people in M3's and 911's that incessantly try to race.

If you don't understand what makes an exotic, it's your loss - not mine. At the end of the day, I'll be enjoying the hell out of ours.

Actually, I mentioned Porsche only because they're (inaccurately) regarded as an entry-level exotic for most. I'm well aware with your stable that you probably could have afforded a higher end 911 but thanks for needlessly bragging about it anyway. Hah.

Your excuses for why you consider your Masi an exotic are almost as amusing as you wanting to be taken seriously as a 'true car guy' for your ability to afford a vehicle which visually impresses others. Congratulations - you're a poser!

I understand fully what makes an exotic. Your Masi is a grand touring sports car. An exotic it is not. Don't embarrass yourself further on this issue. You can thank me later.

^It must be really fun going through life by dismissing any and everything below the absolute elite as 'common'. You could use the same logic and classify everyone who doesn't have 10+ billion in assets as "middle class". You could also, as you've done here, apply it to cars. I realize people on this forum do it all the time when it comes to clothing, food and other items (sometimes to a nauseating degree), but your way of doing it seems particularly annoying.

Totally. Every time I drive the A8L or Q5 crowds of people whip out their phones.

Or not.

Give me a break. I seriously can't believe tha you think your full retail 120k grand turismo is an exotic. Seriously? Based on cost alone you could buy 3 maseratis for 1 Ferrari/Lamborghini.

And to the Australian comment. Maybe maserati simply isn't popular over there. Also think about it. If you were wealthy why would you buy a middle of the road maserati when you could buy a Ferrari, zonda, etc?

So pray tell why did you pick the maserati over the higher Italian cars, because they gave you a good pricing plan?

No one is saying the maserati is a shit car, but don't pretend for a second that it's in the same league as the Lamborghini, bugatti, etc. True exotics.

The exotic/not-exotic argument to me isn't a matter of price, to me at least. I fully understand preference, regardless of performance/price/visual appeal/etc. However, it is simply arrogance and nothing more when a self-proclaimed 'true car guy' belittles the BMW (or insert any other middle-of-the-road car brand) owner who wishes to maintain the integrity of his/her vehicle by DD'ing a beater and not subjecting his/her car to shit weather/streets/other drivers.

Just because you don't give a rat's ass what your vehicle looks or performs like after a few years - since you're gonna trade it in for something new anyway - doesn't mean it's all good making fun of those who do care.

P.S. I daily a shit beater so that my weekend ride doesn't deal with the nastiness that is downtown Chicago streets, Chicago winters, Chicago expressway commuters. F that noise and F you if you're gonna act superior to me just because you don't give a fuck about your car.

You're confusing Hyper Cars with Exotics. A hyper car pushes the boundaries of engineering, and can only be owned by people for whom money is no object. An exotic car is traditionally an imported car from Italy, with a mostly-prohibitive price (in the uk aprox £100k+) and can be either a GT or a Racer.

The Mas falls into all the catagories:

Expensive (more so that almost any other class of car - only Special editions and Hyper cars cost more)
Imported - One of the main firms in Maranello making a car that is tested and built on the mountain coast of Amalfi.
Prohibitive Price - The car costs more than a house in many places. You might (or lets be honest, probably don't this is the internet after all) have so much money that you're bankrolling small nations, but there are millions of people who will never have that money.

And to you; In my local town, the Mas garage has more clients than the Ferarri side of the business (first hand stats, I currently work at the firm that handles their insurance). Believe it or not, there are people out there who aren't desperate to show off their supercars. Not to mention that the Mas has a Ferarri engine, shared components and heritage.

I think you guys are getting caught up in reacting to the arrogance of the guy who posted his Maserati. Either that Or you're a ridiculously tough crowd in terms of defining "exotics".

Also, it's hilarious that this thread has evolved into the same type of automotive pissing contest that the OP makes fun of lol8[1].gif not that I'm blameless in the matter either satisfied.gif

same here. There are numerous people who want the high performance/but still cruiseable hybrid that is a maserati.

Fwiw, to me the maserati is an exotic. Its scarce and does have the story around it. About the part where one saves a car for the weekends, I can understand it but would never do it myself.

edit: I just remembered, a lot of you guys would flog a friend of mine for his car. He drives a maserati quattroporte......on lpg smile.gif

Yeah I don't know what all the hooplah is all about...some of us can afford to buy what we like and sometimes Ferrari doesn't make the list.

The people who have taken issue with me on this have generally been the very people who won't ever have to make the choice
