Here's my view, as a "layman" of sorts to both the Mini and the Porsche, as I don't drive either and have no wish to drive either one of them.
It IS about the branding.
It's like a choice of having sex with a Victoria Secret model or some random woman on the street. Even if the latter is indeed more "pleasurable" I'd pick the former.
For the brand and right to brag, of course.
