In 2 years all cell phones will use the MicroSIM format, though.

Fuck - didn't know about this. So this means that in the countries where it is being sold unlocked, microSIMs are used instead of the regular sized SIMs?

The Textfree app does something similar. You are assigned your own phone number, so normal people can still text you (even on your iPad or iPod), and you send texts over your data connection, so there is no charge for you. You have to endure the ads in the app, but it works pretty well.

My phone has green glowing letters and numbers on a black background. It is so retro chicks dig it.
I wish I can get a Gordon Gekko cell from 80s and use it as my desk phone.

Isn't the iphone version of BBM Whatsapp? Everyone I know is using it and the good thing is that it also is on BBs as well, maybe even on android. Used to be free, but I think its 99 cents now. Also I suppose the iphone version could also be facetime (although wifi only). I can second that the reception issues are largely an american thing where the AT&T coverage is spotty and oversaturated. In Singapore I have no reception issues, but my 3G used to drop calls all the time after the reception firmware update. Never had much problems with my 2G in the states or after I moved here.

Well, I just picked mine up from the Apple store on Fifth Avenue this morning. None of the floor models seemed to suffer from the antenna issue, no matter how I cupped the lower left side of the phone.

I won't be able to play with mine until tonight, but I'm hopeful. Incidentally, it was the most pleasant Apple store experience I've ever had. The salesperson was shockingly unpretentious and eager to please, even though I was decked out in corporate garb and he knew what my job was.

In a strong signal area, I cannot get the phone to drop bars. If I'm somewhere that I only have a few bars to begin with, that is when it becomes problematic.

Oh. The cream solid one you should be able to get at Bergdorf. The light blue one with the little snowflake-like pattern I got in Paris--they ran out of undamaged ones at Bergdorf.

Phones in Apple stores don't have sim cards, to my knowledge. You might have been looking at the wifi signal.

In other news, Google Goggles is out for iOS. Try it out, it rocks.

Today's WSJ is going on about the Verizon iPhone again. Q1 2011. Still supposedly CDMA as opposed to jumping right to LTE.
