What's this regular vs. HDR thing? Is this a setting that is togglable on the phone?

It's a feature of iOS 4.1. Since you're jailbroken, you must still be using 4.0.1.

You'll be able to upgrade and re-jailbreak in a couple weeks' time as a bootrom exploit has been found to allow jailbreaking across all Apple devices running v.4 of iOS.

Is there anything except the photo-taking upgrade that is substantial in 4.1?

Apple's iOS 4.1 update offers both bug fixes (tweaks to the proximity sensor, Bluetooth, iPhone 3G reception issues) and a host of new features. With iOS 4.1, users will get access to the following new offerings: * 99-cent TV show rentals and Ping in iTunes * Game Center, which offers enhanced multiplayer gaming. Macworld writes, "Not only will Game Center make great games easier to find, but there will be new social features for gamers to utilize such as notifications, streaming video, leader boards, and stats. Developers can look forward to get more promotion for their games, and players can more easily learn about these games from their friends' recommendations." * High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos (for iPhone 4 only). "This photo mechanism snaps three stills and combines them to create the perfect photo depending on lighting, shadows, and other photo-altering elements," 9to5Mac explains. "To enable HDR just click the HDR button on top of the Camera apps' interface. You can choose whether the camera will save just the HDR version of the photo or the standard version as well." * HD video uploading via WiFi

Quite a few phones can take HDR photos, MS. Not just iPhones.

Good news, iTards: google voice for the iPhone is back and can be used without jailbreaking.

Gentleman, I am thinking of picking up the Iphone4. Will be using it in India though, so I need it unlocked. Best to pick up in the US and jailbreak or should I source one from Hong Kong or something?

The iOS (4.1) that the new iPhone is running is not jailbreakable. This may change in the future, but it's hard to know. Thus, avoid buying a locked model at all costs. I would buy an unlocked phone from wherever it's cheapest. They're being sold unlocked in Canada ($779 CAD + tax for the 32GB model), though apparently supplies in stores are still extremely low.

Thanks. Its being released in China on 9/25, so I might have a friend try and pick one up from there. Gotta figure out where its the cheapest. Based on the release date for their 3G, it might take a year before Apple releases it in India.

In Switzerland it's 799 CHF incl. Swiss tax (right now appr. 796 US$) for the iPhone 4 16GB, unlocked directly from Apple. Only downside is that they obviously only ship to addresses in Switzerland.

Is anyone using iBooks or subscribe to a magazine on your iPhone yet? I am holding out on getting an iPad until the next generations. In the meantime, I am condidering getting some books or magazines on my iPhone. I am worried about the small size of the device though.
