I thought about getting my mom an iphone but she doesn't use a computer.

I don't even think you can activate it w/o a cpu.

not entirely....only for stuff you don't buy from itunes. you can always make purchases on the phone and now, with the cloud thing, you can set it so phone purchases automatically DL to the computer or you can make a purchase on the computer and have it automatically DL to the phone without plugging it in. when iOS5 is out, you'll be able to view your entire library from the phone and DL what you want. they've already activated that with the app store. i've already put it to good use.

All credible rumors suggest an incremental update (dual-core CPU, better camera, dual antenna), and those suggesting otherwise are poor sources (one analyst predicting a revamped 5 also predicted a retina screen for iPad 2). Better yet: would you bet money on a full redesign? I sure wouldn't.
Oh vei...first the speaker has been improved check the specs. I own both and the 2 is noticeably louder than 1. The debate is what changes are coming and will they warrant an upgrade. Who cares if the fucking shape changes? People want features and performance. Has the iPhone changed so much in appearance since the original??? I love when it is time for the latest phone to come out and people are expecting it to be some earth shattering device that does not even resemble the other devices. Good luck with that one.

Yea purchased music transfers without a computer. The issue I see is not being able to manage your media collection very well. It does not appear that you can add or remove movies, manage playlists, etc. From the device. It would be nice if you could. So as of right now it appears the computer connection is still necessary.

I have no idea what you're rambling about, so I'll just quote myself from a few pages back where I agree with you:

This might seem lame on paper (what, no 3D 4" screen?!?!), but iOS 5 + iCloud + faster phone + better camera + dual SIM is a hell of a bump. It will definitely keep the iPhone level with other competitors' hardware specs.
iPhone rumors are usually garbage. Generally, you can take the most practical rumors as fact--for example, the dual-band antenna makes sense from a business standpoint, and upgrading the camera would be easy. The rest of the rumors, though, are fanboy dreams, like this iPad HD we're hearing about for November (or the iPad 2 having a HD screen, as reported by everyone back in February).

I think I'm gonna pass on the iPhone 5. I got the white one when it first came out. I need a break from buying a new phone every year, when I was in NYC I bought the 3GS then the Droid. And I like the fact that the white one was this big mythical unicorn. So far, I haven't seen anybody else with the white one.

Just kopped an iPhone 4 off the 'bay. I'm coming from Android (Samsung Galaxy S- rooted w/ custom ROMs, kernels, the whole nine yards) but I'm a fan of both OSs. Battery life is the big kicker for me, my battery life on my Android is terrible, though I can take some blame for that through my modding/not calibrating the battery when flashing new ROMs. Anyway, I'm excited for the full iOS experience being that this will be my first iPhone. I already can't wait for OS5 haha.

why didn't you wait another month for a the 5?

anyhow. i really like iOS5. I have Beta 3 installed on mine and the notifications is a nice touch. the wireless sync is pretty flawless already. i've seen iCloud in action and if you have multiple apple devices, you are going to like it a lot. the little i've seen of it, it's much better than MobileMe.

Haha yeah, I'm well aware that the 5 is around the corner. Just impatient I guess and not sure which smartphone to commit to so this will be like a trial for me before I sell one of them to fund the next big phone, whether an LTE Android phone or the iPhone5. I don't use upgrades anyway, so I just bought this one used to hold me over.

Hmmm, maybe I haven't read enough, but I assumed the beta releases of iOS5 were for developers and the like at the moment and wouldn't be readily available for download through Apple. I do use other Apple products so if I can try the new features early too that would be awesome. I'll be looking at some of you hardcore iPhone guys for some guidance in the near future nod[1].gif
