RIM is 2nd. what is impressive though is that the iphone has around 8% of smartphone sales, yet 25% of the total market share.
Apple does not announce 6 weeks in advance. EVER. They send out invites to a Keynote Event which is usually a weeks notice. They announce the new product with pre-orders following within a week or two of the announcement. That would mean we will not hear anything until mid-May at the earliest. Most misleading stat in technology. There are 100 droids and all the carriers have them. Ditto for Blackberry which is operating in the Stone Age as far as I am concerned. When it comes to sales Apple crushes all.

EXACTLY. If I had a nickel for all the false rumors, I would own an iPhone 10 already.

Depends on what you consider "ground breaking." It looks like there will be a large increase in megapixels, screen size.....I am not going to go through all of the substantiated rumors. Let's just say it will not be like going from a iPhone 3g to a 3gs. I would imagine it will be closer to the changes between the iPad and iPad 2. For many the changes were worth the upgrade. The bottom-line is no one really knows when the iPhone 5 will come out. All I am saying is I will believe the phone will be delayed when I see it. Until then I am skeptical.

If they release anything, it's going to be an iPhone 4S... they spent WAY too much money researching the iPhone 4 (plus they just got the white model into the market) to release a whole new iPhone 5.

The rumors tend to be that the iphone 5 will only be a minor upgrade, with a slightly larger screen (.2" bigger iirc) and some hardware upgrades. I'm pretty content with the current iphone 4. If anything, I wish ATT would fix their networks.

Okay wait, I lied. There's one major reason you might want to wait until the iPhone 5: rumors (ugh, rumors) state Apple is working on a dual-carrier antenna.

Why does this matter to you? If you're thinking about switching carriers, you can take your iPhone 5 with you. This is kind of unprecedented in America.

Yeah, but you are tied-into the contract unless Verizon / ATT will allow you to buy the phone outright sans contract a-la the rest of the world.

Which they do. You can buy a phone unsubsidized--they just cost $300 extra. Also, if you want to jump ship after a year, you can convince your new carrier to cover the early termination fee.

I've not really experienced any network problems people have, no problems in most every part of LA I'm in so as far as I'm concerned ATT service has been great for me.

mine isn't horrible. in my office, service sucks, but it does for everyone. doesn't matter if you have verizon, att, tmobile, etc. all have trouble.

there are dead spots with ATT i encounter everyday. for example. the intersection where i get on the expressway everyday coming to and from work, i drop a call without fail. it's about a 200 yard circle area where i can't do anything. annoying. also ATT seems to be the worst when i'm a concert or sporting event with a lot of people. service isn't great for my friends who have verizon but at least they can check email, receive/send texts, etc. i can't do anything.

Once you figure out the right combinations it loses that. Don't look up strategies online!
