Despite the joke, the idea is interesting. I just watched "Up in the Air" and I found his lifestyle very appealing, despite the fact that the movie is designed to the show the loneliness and emptiness thereof.

chicago - the one thing that isn't clear to me is if you want to stay put for a while. single, there are probrably better places. if you will one day get married and want to choose a place to stay fora while, chicago.

This would have a large influence on my decision:

Ages 20-64? Can this be re-run using a tighter age range?

I'll cast another vote for Chicago. It has enough stuff going on culturally to keep me busy and isn't anywhere near as busy or hectic as NYC. Plus, the White Sox are an ALCentral team so I'd still get to see the Tigers quite a bit. And as much as I like the nice weather in Southern California, I would miss the changing seasons.

NYC - Chicago's too cold. Plus there is that female-to-male ratio thing.

I haven't had the opportunity to travel the US in depth to draw upon a good choice but my location would have to be coastal. I'd say SF on the West Coast for sure. As far as the East Coast I've visited various locales in the North East, mid and southern Florida and lived in NYC for 7 years and they're all "meh", maybe Savannah on the East Coast. If there were no boundaries I'd live in the South Of France somewhere between Nice and St Tropez, no doubt!

NYC Metro area or NYC itself, Philladelphia, Chicago, Boston, Miami or Atlanta. Those are all that I could think of off the top of my head.

Strangely, I felt the same way when I saw it a couple weeks back!

+1 on Chicago being a great city, I was born and raised in that area but man it does get cold in the winter.

+10 on Vegas, from the sounds of it this location does not have to be the OP's final settling place so live it up for a few years out there!

Only been to San Diego once but I loved it there, great food, great nightlife, gorgeous weather and femmes.

Ever think about Miami or Fort Lauderdale? South FL is fuunnn.

i have to vouch for my city, new orleans. i'm a student that makes pennies a year, and i still find a way to live it up in this city. if you had $150k a year you'd be a king down here. the nightlife is insane if you enjoy boozing it up, grinding on bitches etc. i don't, so i simply enjoy the rich culture and history of new orleans. absolutely the best food and the best party city in the country. the cost of living here is really low, and it's truly a special city if you can stand the humidity. once you spend a few months in the french quarter you'll get used to your shirt sticking to your back -- but that's what new orleans is all about. ride the motherfucker til the wheels come off. it's worth every second.

New York.

I grew up in Chicago, it is definitely not New York. Not even close. Great place to live if you want to have a family in the city. And definitely cheap - your money will go far there. The weather sucks most of the year - the summers are hot and muggy and the winters are cold, gray and bleak.

San Francisco is okay, but the weather is generally not that great (right now it is though), and it is almost as expensive as New York but without a lot of the advantages. I personally like LA a lot, but YMMV.

Outside the US? London has its pluses and minuses but I like it. Paris does too. Tokyo is okay for a year or two, but after that, is a lot less interesting as a foreigner.

For places I haven't been for any real length of time... People say the Norwegian cities are amazing places with good quality of life. I don't know a lot about them, far too cold for me. Vancouver is really nice during the summer, but gloomy throughout the year. Hong Kong used to be great, but the Chinese government generally biases towards Shanghai, so I feel like its best days are behind it.
