Lining on neck of tie?

Thread Starter
I bought a David Chu tie at the Saks sale. It's got a "lining" of sorts, in a contrast color, stitched to the inside of the portion of the tie that goes around my neck. Is anyone familiar with this feature? Know what purpose it is supposed to serve, and whether it in fact serves any purpose at all?

TIA...

I've only seen it on wool ties, where the purpose (I gather) is to prevent pilling and to allow the tie to move a little.

Hmm...

This is a silk tie, and the lining fabric is neither noticeably stickier or more slippery than the tie itself...

I've seen this on silk knits also. I presume it is to minimze wear. Sulka used to use additional stiching in this area of their silk ties (sort of a criss-cross pattern), for what, I assume, was the same reason.
