NEW Super compact DSLR from SONY about to hit the market in June. - Page 2

4/3 has an advantage in the size of telephotos, while m4/3 has an advantage in the size of wide angles, due to the shorter flange-back distance. olympus is on the record saying as much.

ever see the leica 25/1.4 asph for 4/3? it's disproportionately large.

The NEX7/9 rumors indicate those will be more "pro" in nature. So it is hopefully not a dead end to invest in one of these. At the same time, the lens reviews for the Sony have not been great. Currently, I think an E-PL1 with a Panny 20mm is probably the best value point.

But, of course, once Canon/Nikon enter the mirrorless field, all bets are off. And if they don't have at least prototypes in development, they are crazy.

Now Sony is also going to release Pellix cameras, those might be interesting, but the loss of an f-stop might be too much.

There used to be a flash app for comparing the size of various camera bodies with lenses attached. I wish I could find it. You're correct though. I'm more concerned with telephotos, and the size difference is pretty significant at the longer end of the spectrum. Anyway, these posts about "such and such a camera is giong to change everything and obsolete the competition" are always ridiculous. Everyone has a different shooting style and preferences, and to say that one system is going to eliminate the need for another is just dumb. The advice i always give people is to do their own research, figure out what's important to them, and then choose something.

The proprietary Sony lens mount and lack of quick manual controls are both dealbreakers for me. Plus, they aren't offering a prime lens in a portrait focal length.

I can see using this as a replacement for my camcorder, but it can't replace either my P&S camera or my DSLR.

Maybe it's just me but I can't imagine using most of my Nikon lenses with a point-and-shoot body, especially the telephoto stuff.

Looks terribly unwieldly.

The new Samsung compact with the f/1.8-f/2.4 zoom is more interesting. Full-frame DSLR for serious work, compact for portability - cameras straddling the middle won't do either well.
