Must be a relativity thing since everything else there is so insipid

Why do people from other countries always think the produce is better in their home country vs. the US? I know I feel this way about Ontario produce, but of course, my perception aligns quite well with reality.

I'm actually not joking much. The "heirloom" thing gets painful at times but they really do taste better quite often, IMO.

produce in korea sucks

well the variety does

a) when you're on vacation EVERYTHING tastes better
b) we tend to vacation places where things like to grow ... not so much on the Upper West Side
c) I have never tasted melons or peaches like the ones we've been getting this year. Just unbelievably sweet and aromatic.

Agree with you FG but I wonder if a bit of nostalgia also flavours things?

of course. i believe it was la reyniere who said that hunger makes the best sauce ... and i think that applies to all forms of hunger.

The produce in CA has been spectacular this year.

really agree. i've been eating melons from one of my favorite farmers all summer and they've been terrific. then this morning i had a new one called Sugar Cube that was actually almost too sweet. It had the texture and the flavor almost like watermelon rind, but with this really explosive honey flavor. wow. still have half in my fridge. and dessert last night was probably the last of the dapple dandy pluots. i'd put it up against a good santa rosa plum (about the highest praise i can think of)

I've eaten almost two pounds of amazing cherry tomatoes since last night (2lbs for $1 at Jons currently)

Don't you guys have a Fairway down there? The fruit is usually pretty good. You also have Chinatown--there are lychees, longyan, dragon fruit, and sweet, non-stringy mangos on every corner.

I love fresh lychee.
