The world lost an incredibly wise man.

Even as a fan of rival schools, this is very sad. He was a tremendous class act. However, at 99 its fair to say he had a full life.

Vin Scully (whose eventual death will really leave me blue) said this about Wooden tonight during the Dodger game: "Those of who knew him and knew him well are the ones who are blessed by his life. As usual, when it gets down to it, Shakespeare said it best: 'His life was gentle and the elements so mixed in him that nature might stand up and say to all the world this was a man.’"

+1--watched his basketball tapes for hours as a kid. Always wished I could have attended a Pauley game to join in a standing ovation for the master.

John Wooden's released a number of books... Is there a particular one that anyone has read and recommends more than the others?

Genius, motivator, class-act. Transcended the game. RIP Coach Wooden.

One of the all time greats and class acts.

Humility and achievements come to mind when I think of him.

My friend's daughter's ex is a former USC Football player who somehow ended up working for The Wooden Foundation ( it was very small but respected ). So I got to meet him years ago. He was an incredible person with an amazing mind for his age and his attitude was truly inspirational.

He affected a lot of lives in the right way. RIP, Coach.

He was terrific! Naturally, given that he was originally from these parts, he was cherished around here. He'll be missed.

RIP "Wizard of Westwood". Someone on here once had a great quote by him as their signature. I need to find it and post it.
