Even this guy who is a bit older and no brad pitt, looks stylish and refined with sneakers. Comforably cool for a spring/summer day.

I'd say he looks distinguished in spite of the sneakers. Loafers or deck shoes would better compliment the outfit, IMHO.

Agreed. A part from that green bag, the shoes are the worst part of his ensemble. Nice loafers would have been much better.

I'm thinking, why would anyone wear those hideously expensive non-sneaker sneakers when you can go get a pair of Vans (even the overpriced designer ones) for something under $90, or a pair of Chucks or Adidas Italias. Something from a proper sneaker company, in any case. Hermes and JL and whatever sneakers scream "I have money but don't know how to wear sneakers. I really, really don't". Some Italian guys pull it off, but even then, it's hit and miss.

Much as I hate boat shoes and loafers, I would choose those over these sneaker/shoe hybrids.

I like the sneakers, but I'm with EL72 that the green Goyard bag is a little much. I mean, I'm sure there are better ways to draw attention to your $1000 tote-bag than to have it colored bright green.

Aside from that, though, I do like the sneakers. I agree that loafers would look a little classier, but the sneakers actually seem a little more confident to me. Like, maybe this guy had a great pair of loafers picked out but he just didn't feel like wearing them. I probably wouldn't have the nerve to go with sneakers, but more power to this guy. Maybe he's SO confident that, when shown the numerous other, more understated colors of Goyard bags, he decided to go gung-ho and get bright green.

Then again, maybe this guy just wants attention... I mean, he does have half of his shirt unbuttoned Tom Ford-style.

I wore them today hence the socks.

And yes, I have LOAFERS also, in fact, I bought loafters long before I ever wore sneakers, and loafers, I usually wear them when I'm going to dinner etc. or more formal affair.

But I like the sport look myself, and for day they are splendid.
On the street, walking, driving, etc. nothing surpasses driving shoes, sneakers, etc. Great with jeans and such.

Interestingly enough, AAAC has been pretty positive, yet style forum not, now I wonder who is more trad

From AAAC:

Summer Lobb from AAAC.
The new Summer collection from John Lobb

Key words for the summer collection from John Lobb, are understated elegance and casual refinement without losing style Reflecting an increasing demand for distinctive and elegant relaxed styles, these designs are a new departure for the brand.

Soft leathers, hand-stitched details, natural leather and rubber layered soles, padded collars – attention to detail in three stylish lightweight models for Spring-Summer 2005.
Sprint starts off the collection in soft suede in Cinnamon, Moka, Biscuit and Misty Blue. The lightweight, layered sole is designed for durability, flexibility and style and features a monogrammed John Lobb rubber grip. A seven-eyelet lace-up, this style is supplied with tone-on-tone and contrasting white laces.

Isn't the idea of Lobb sneakers akin to Borrelli denim? It smacks of Robb Report sensibilities. I mean, some clothing items just do not jive with the notion of 'luxurious' by their very nature. This does not mean they cannot be expensive, it just means that they have to retain some sort of roughness and street-ness.

And this is way out of Lobb's core strengths, which is designing and making refined and long-wearing dress shoes. Exactly what is Lobb bringing to the sneaker market? Better skins? I can't see EG doing the same (perhaps to their ultimate detriment - who knows?).

That having been said, the shoes themselves are not half bad

I find espadrilles at $50 or less are far more classic, elegant and nicer. The JL's remind me of Linds, the Cadillac of bowling shoes.

That's a woman's Goyard Tote bag to boot. With the advent of Goyard as the new "fashion-insider" bag, every fashion show attendee has one in green with some whimsical monogram. If it were up to me, I'd have a tote bag custom made up in the shape of a large but comely octopus. An interesting look at vintage driving footwear habits:

Sorry, I find the JL's hideous.

soph sure got a lot of (-) instead of (+), eh? to be fair, those shoes should go well with summer trousers. and i have to disagree with it being robb-reportish. now, a louise vuitton logo'd pair of sneakers, or a gucci embossed pair....
