Loose thread on nice suit - what to do?

Hi everyone,

I've been wearing a nice Yves St Laurent three piece suit for the past two years and have gotten a lot of use out of it (and hopefully more to come). However, I noticed yesterday that one of the stitches in the back has started to come loose. At the moment, there is just a small loop hanging off, but I want to nip this in the bud before it gets any worse.

Any suggestions on what to do? I'm in China now and trust the opinions on this board over what my choice of local tailors might suggest.

Thanks in advance!

That is a bit generous surely. The tailor can see the thread, no one here can. Many tailors in China are far more competent than some that are in business in the west. Be more trusting if it is that bad.

Do what I normally do when I see a loose thread. Pull it, and then complain about the outcome.

There's your problem, you need to rotate the suit with something else. Wearing one suit constantly will cause premature wear like you've experienced. I fear your only remedy is to throw the suit out and buy a new one, post haste.

If the loose thread is long enough, I'd be tempted to stick it through a needle and then poke it back in so that the thread is hanging down between the back and the lining.

I expressed myself poorly. I've had it a few years but with my rotation I have probably only worn it on 30 or so instances. I don't think that's a good return for the initial outlay.
