Uninspiring clothes? - Page 2

Go to Barneys, Saks, NM, etc for ideas. Walk around a area with small edgy clothes and look at what people on the street are wearing there. Try new fabrics such as linen, silk or cashmere in shirts and/or pants. Look at shoes and try some on. etc

Mediocrity... IN MELROSE? ARE YOU FUCKIN' blind?

If anything there's a ton of bizzare things to be seen here in L.A. man.

I'm sorry but I'm super insulted with the way you started this thread and your reasons behind it... "being conditioned to seeing so much mediocrity that isn't what I'm looking for. Am I alone?" And then stating that "I've yet to check out all the little shops and such in LA because I'm very doubtful I'll find anything"

WTF?

Hey guys, I can never find anything I like with my eyes closed! What should I do? Am I alone?
Rasafras)&upwjermOIU%)$*#)(*#$)($U()!@!!$*)&@!@*@!#!@

EDIT: Okay, now that I've cooled off... I hope you go have fun galavanting all the shops in L.A. I personally have just been forced to wear scrubs and ride the bus at the oddest hours daily during the week and am myself in some need of fashion rejuvination this weekend. Hope to see you at la brea (american rag anyone?)... so I can slap the backside of your head (in jest!)

Also, Are any of you guys like eBay literate, like me. I'm not just talking about http://clothing.ebay.com/ or http://clothes.ebay.co.uk/. I'm talking about http://abbigliamento.ebay.it/, http://vetement-accessoires.ebay.fr/ and http://kleidung.ebay.de/.

I have been literate in them all for the past 3 years or so, picked up some amazing finds that you don't find on .com, .co.uk and you can't beat it. If your willing to spend the time surfing through 10's of Thousands of listings, you will find some amazing stuff. Also use this for reference http://www.wordreference.com/, and checkout all the latest fashions from the Primavera Estate & Paris.

Sign up for a paypal account, make sure the seller offers buyer protection, they have 99.8% or higher feedback rating and your good to go.

JET, If there is anything in particular your looking for, just let me know, I will try to help you out.

Instead of buying clothes you don't like, stop shopping for a while, or at least just browse instead. I have to do it occasionally. It helps.

Alright guys, found some cool shit not to mention made some friends along the way.

Hollywood Trading Company

Can't say enough good things about Scott at HTC, he is the man. They are the denim doctors and I'm having my jeans hemmed as we speak. He loves to chat, spent quite some time in there and he has some unique pieces. Some choice cloak stuff like this one jacket (too small and too much $$$ haha) and obedient sons button downs. Still waiting on new rag bone stuff coming. He's also getting some jeans sent over from the other store that I could try on after I told him specifically what I was looking for (apc, 5ep). Super cool cat, LA guys should stop in and see what's up. Still waiting on the rest of his fall stuff to come in.

Scout

Snobby girls, not a lot of merchandise. Some fillippa k items that were alright (don't know of the quality). This chalk colored military inspired shirt caught my eye but no thanks at 200. Wouldn't buy anything from that place if they had anything I liked due to staff.

South Willard

Ryan who is the owner, actually works there surprise surprise. Small boutique, excellent presentation and lots of goodies in a small space. He's got apc (this new jacket was nice), band of outsiders, common proj's, and rag bone (new jacket was real nice). Chill guy, we chit chatted for awhile and he's an enthusiast himself which is great.

Douglas Fir

John the owner, pimp old guy. He's got lots of european stuff again in a small space. Saw these amazing black margiela cotton pants that I was scared to try for fear of my cc limit. Seasoned gentleman with style, has some great ginger candy on his desk (highly recommended). He even offered us water which I thought was very considerate considering it was 90+ in LA. I tried on a navy washed cotton mason utility jacket, a european size large fit me perfectly.

I was 3 out of 4 with scout getting the big thumbs down. I will definitely get some stuff from these guys and they had nothing but good things to say about each other, love that. Sorry for the somewhat long review by internet standards. Oh and love the common projects man.

I haven't started looking yet, but those links promise to be very useful. Thanks. I was becoming annoyed by the lack of interesting gear on ebay.

I actually didn't like Scout either. I walked around for a while and when the person working there didn't even acknowledge my presence (I was the only one there too), I said screw it and left. I do agree that the HTC and South Willard folks are great though.

Scout and South Willard both opened after I left LA, and I never got a chance to visit them on subsequent visits. It's possible that I've met Scot at HTC (but we were never introduced), but in any case, I've neve gotten

It's possible that I've met Scot at HTC (but we were never introduced), but in any case, I've neve gotten anything but good service at any of their locations, and I used to love browsing at the 3rd Street Denim Doctors. The buyers are terrific as well, and prices reasonable for the fare. They had Nudies before anyone else, pretty much, and Corpus, and a dozen other brands, some of with have come and gone. A really good store.

Rob rocks, saw him at Ozzfest in the 90s and was highly impressed at his stage presence. Great frontman.

Yep.

Fok, not much to see at Scout so don't expect much.

South Willard has a high quality to quantity ratio. I'm going to do the common projs in white and grey lows when I get some spare cash.
