Take some time off to look for a job. come back and put in your two weeks, and take all the sick leave you can in that time period.

I didnt think of that. I always cash out my remaining PTO at the end of the year as I hardly use it, but I figured Id lose it if I quit/got fired.

The pay is commensurate for the work, but I could wait tables or work at a car wash and make more. For an 'adult' job that requires a bachelors, it's fucking embarrassing. Plus the commission structure has been on a continual decline since I started.

In the grand scheme of things you're just a peon and your loss won't matter whatsoever whereas your own prospects are hurt dramatically.

I wouldnt leave to get back at anyone, as nobody there could give a shit. I was considering leaving just to give myself a break. My abrupt departure would create minor issues for a few days, though.

To my surprise, he wrote back an honest review of what I could improve in the future (surfing SF ), thanked me for offering to help our co-worker ("class move, sign of character, ability to look beyond your own concers") and he not only said confirming dates wasnt a problem, but offered to write a nice letter of recommendation - which is way more than I thought or even asked for. He and I werent that close, so this was a surprise.

So there ya go. Be professional and you might get more than you bargained for. And besides, in this day and age of LinkedIn where you can visually SEE who you know and who they know, its best to play it safe

Thats cool of him. Sounds like youll be in a good position with the recommendation as well.
