Need electronic music recommendations...

...something electronic, think similar to Moon Safari by Air.

Something that could play in the background, on a rainy day while I have the fireplace going (it's winter now in Australia), something I could read to. Or even have as background music for a chilled, laid back party or evening.

i.e. nothing that could even come close to resembling noise, or angry noise.

Recommend away!

I love Air. I saw them not long ago live in Philly. Here are some similar artists and albums: Animal Magic by Bonobo Royksopp's latest album, Junior, is also quite good. Zero 7's Simple Things. Gotan Project's La Revancha Del Tango All of Morcheeba's albums, but Dive Deep has a very Air quality to it. Let me know if you want anything else, I am a big fan of this type of music.

just download last.fm plugin and use tags like electronica or easy listening. if you wanna listen to it while reading you dont need to care about the bands anyway ..

This is quite good, but When It Falls is much better IMO. Kruder and Dorfmeister's The K & D Sessions is just phenomenal. Would highly recommend. It's also hard to go wrong with just about anything from Thievery Corporation. The Richest Man in Babylon is my favorite.

All excellent choices as well.

We'll have to agree to disagree about which Zero 7 album is better.

Here are a few favorites for electronic chillout music, no particular order:

Stereolab: Emperor Tomato Ketchup and Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements

Thievery Corporation: any of the earlier ones, maybe start with Sounds from the T.C. Hi-Fi

Tosca: Suzuki

Bill Laswell: ROIR Dub Sessions (sampler from several recordings) and Radioaxiom: A Dub Transmission (with Jah Wobble)

St. Germain: Tourist

Bent: Programmed to Love

Blue States: Nothing Changes Under the Sun

Moby: Play

DJ Shadow: Endtroducing...

Brian Eno: might be too ambient for your purposes - try Music for Airports or Fourth World, Vol. 1: Possible Musics (with Jon Hassell)

Oh, almost forgot Desmond Williams' Delights of the Garden. He's on Thievery's ESL label, which also has several enjoyable compilations out.

Also, you're in Australia? I thought you were in northern Euro for some reason. Either way, Oz has a great podcast broadcasted on Sundays, Ultima Thule. They also pod cast it for free, with years and years of back episodes. Free on iTunes.

these are both great albums for chill out type of music. i would also recommend:

Emancipator's Soon It Will Be Cold Enough

Saltillo's Ganglion (some of the beats are more aggressive along the lines of DnB)

Kashiwa Daisuke's Program Music I (glitchy DnB/IDM mixed with classical)

The Q4's Sound Surroundings
