Moving this thread over from general chat..........

I am visiting Amsterdam, Milan, Berlin, Rome & Ibiza later this summer. Spending roughly 4 days in each city. I'm trying to go ahead and build up my itinerary of things to do/places to see, and I would like some opinions of other forum members! I've already got a lot of shopping suggestions from you guys earlier, but I'm still open for any 'hole in the wall', not so mainstream shopping places you may suggest. I'm also really looking for any places you think I should go, whether it be restaurant suggestions to sightseeing, if you think it's worth it, post it here!

I'm also looking for a good place in Rome to get a haircut if any of you have any experience with that.

Keep in mind, I'm a college student and I'm not wanting to spend a ton of money on food. Please keep any restaurant suggestions around (or under) 20 euro a person. Like I said, I'm looking for more hole in the wall, back alley joints where the locals go and the prices are more favorable.

I'm open to anything you guys have to offer and all suggestions are very much appreciated. I've traveled all over the US and to the Caribbean but this is my first time ever going to Europe so I know nothing about the areas.

You're not serious are you? Four days like that will mean the first day wasted on arrival. Transit from the airport and unpacking. Losing a day to leaving. Packing and transit to the airport.

In Italy grocery shopping won't be hard. Just pick the nearest place to your hotel room. Any money you might save by treking to a hypermarket will be wasted on travel.

Well yeah....we don't know if we're going to have a chance for Europe again in the next 5 years, so we wanted to hit as many of the cities we really wanted to visit in our 20 day timeframe. We thought 4 days in each city would allow ample time to see quite a few things.......am I wrong in assuming this?

congratulations on the great trip.

your assumption is right.

forget about the idea to buy groceries. you'll hit the street markets and can get local take away food for cheap. from my gut feeling you should be able to do all the things on your list.

enjoy your time in europe.

Honestly, if 20 euros per person per meal is your budget I don't think there is anything to worry about. That isn't even shoestring-budget travelling, certainly not in Berlin anyway. Forget getting groceries from supermarkets. All areas of Berlin I've ever been to are rife with restaurants where you can eat for less than that - throw a stone and you'll hit one.

That said, if you go to Hackescher Markt - which I assume you will, who doesn't? - there is a very small pizzeria called "Piccola Italia", one of my favourite cheap eateries in Berlin, in Oranienburger Straße 6. Run by authentic Italians, many dishes are <5 euros.

If you like Vietnamese cuisine, this place is worth a visit (also not far from Hackescher Markt and in the same price range).

However, by far Berlin's best Vietnamese cuisine in terms of value-for-money is served at this place. Basically everything for a fiver. The menu changes daily. Unfortunately it's in Neukölln, a part of town that to put it mildly isn't exactly Berlin's #1 tourist attraction.

As for sightseeing, if you like art the Gemäldegalerie is worth visiting for its Rembrandts alone.

One of the least mainstream "sights" to see in Berlin is this. It's future is uncertain so go before they clear out the place!
