Marriage and travelling (around the world)

Thread Starter
I wanted to get some advice from people who have been married a while.

Let's say in your first year of marriage you travel to so many places around the world with your partner and it's something you really enjoy doing. Once you had kids, did things change for the better/worse?

Do all your exotic/adult travelling before having kids. You can travel with kids but it's not at all the same type of trip.

Is better not make marriage if you want travel, is so nice to make much thing with much different woman in much different city of the world! With child I think is not possible travel without become crazy! Maybe when child is more old, adult, if you have boy child, you can to travel with him and make tag team ménage together!

I have 3 kids, travel for me is now 5 or more times as expensive as it was before I was married. we used to travel (my wife and I) 3-4 times a year. now we do a 3 day trip, jsut the two of us, and a couple of long weekends in the US with the kids, and a long international trip every two years with the kids. more than that is very difficult and expensive

I think you have to ask yourself first why it is you like traveling... a lot of people have different conscious/subconscious reasons for wanting to do it, then you'll be able to predict better whether having a family will effect it or not. I know working-class guys who do it just for finding novel pussy, and visit historical sites just as an afterthought, on the opposite end there are the status-conscious families who travel for no other reason than they want to show off the pics of their family at different world sites on their walls. There's historians, shoppers, hipsters looking for adventure, etc all in there as well. Obviously each of those are effected differently or not at all by having a family.

Well,

I'm 26 and unmarried. Over the past few years, I've been to Montreal 2x, Ottawa 3x, Vancouver x2, Victoria and lots of trips to Edmonton (world class shopping at the WEM). I'm going back to Montreal this August.

I have often proposed to my sister that her, I and her two young children go to Montreal together. It's really a family friendly city if you don't plan on walking the streets after dark. Logistically, its just difficult. I can book off whenever (self employed), she's a f/t nurse and the kids are generally in school.

And besides, sometimes you just have to take the kids to a kid friendly spot. While the Biodome or Imperial War Museum might have a good appeal to me, my niece isn't going to walk through rows of tanks and field pieces just to see Hitlers Mercedes.

So yes, travel is possible, but it gets difficult.

married with a kid. With one child it's not that bad but hearing from those with multiple, it gets expensive fast.
My daughter is still young so it's easy enough taking her places but I know that a couple more years at most and she'll be too old to drag around.

What my wife & I decided before having kids was that we'd travel until we couldn't get the kid(s) to go along anymore, and then we'd do road trips and see the country.

My wife and I have been traveling for 8 months, have about 2 left before we head back stateside. No kids, yet. Best thing we've ever done. It gets tense on occasion, but we are together most days so it is to be expected. We couldn't have done it with kids. All the advice we got from everyone is to travel as much as possible before you have them, bc like everyone else says it's expensive with em. Hell it's expensive without em.
