does shampooing less work for straight hair?

I've read a lot of people's success stories on here about shampooing once every few days while conditioning every day. I've got straight hair, and I tried that once, and the result wasn't that great. If I kept at it, would it be better?

Yes, you hair will eventually become used to less shampooing Or use a shampoo without Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate like Aubrey Shampoos. It'll get less dry if you decide to shampoo daily.

What exactly is the point of not shampooing every day and conditioning every day? I guess I don't get it.

What's supposed to get better?

I'm a believer:

My hair used to be frizzy and curlier with shampooing everyday, I couldn't control it. Any little wind when playing golf would totally mess it up.

Now I only shampoo every 3 days or so, just rinse the other days. I can now actually wake up and have it be wearable without HAVING to shower, and it stays in place much better in the wind. Also lots of the little frizzy hairs that used to stick up in wierd directions are gone, they lay flat.

grease?

I read all the shit online and started to get excited, but then I saw pictures and read that "it will never feel quite as clean as when you used shampoo daily."

For some reason I'm not terribly bothered by the fact that I feel the need to shower daily, I've known plenty of people who I wish had also had the same compulsion.

When my hair is dirty I wash it, otherwise I just rinse it. Whenever I'm complimented on my hair (its not like it happens all the time, but it does occur), if I'm with a buddy they make sure to point it out that "He just doesn't wash it". I hate how my hair looks after shampooing it, its so dull and flat and lifeless and I use good stuff so that's not the problem.

Thank god I shave everyday otherwise I would look like quite the bum with my dirty hair, beat up boots, & jeans that have never been washed.

This is because you probably don't use products in your hair and when you don't wash your hair the natural oils (sebum) from your scalp coat your hair and tame your hair.

mine looks better a little grimy and chunky with a few days of gel kind of accumulated in it. Sounds a bit gross, but it looks better for it. I normally shampoo every 3 days or so.

^ that really is gross man, I can understand not shampooing and only water rinsing if you don't use product, but gel is like glue that sits on top of your head magnetizing all kinds of environmental grime throughout the day. There are better solutions to getting textured hair.

*shrug* a couple of days of griminess in it and I start getting compliments from girls about how they like my hair now. Go figure.

use a bit of wax, guy. Same low-sheen effect as two-day old gel, without having to wait two days to see the results :P

oh I use a variety of crap. I recently rediscovered Brylcreem, that shit rocks. Otherwise, Gatsby stuff I bought here, or different Gatsby stuff I bought in Japan....some Swarzkopf wax too, all kinds of stuff. I just said 'gel' above as a generic phrase for product - which was probably wrong of me. Anyhow, allow me to repeat the most important thing I said in my previous post: *shrug* Not something I particularly care about. Works for me. Others, doowutchyalike...

Any kind of 'product' looks and especially feels awful. Not sure why anyone out of high school would use it.

Not washing your hair to achieve oil and grease buildup is pretty disgusting.

Most of you need better haircuts, not crazy solutions to tame your hair.

Lol! I used to sell Swarzkopf to hair salons back in the day. They have / had great hair color but I don't remember to much about their products.

Apparently they're big in Europe? Well, that's what they're rep said...

There are some lightweight waxes and grooming creams that work great as long as you only use a tiny bit. Basically if it looks like you put product in your hair, you used too much. Definitely don't want that gelled-out wet look.
