Stylish shorts - Page 2

Except at the beach (or tropics) or for athletics, shorts in public are not recommended.

If you do wear shorts in public, a snug fit is not nice to others. Also, it defeats much of the cooling purpose of shorts. Baggy isn't good, either.

Above or below the knee depends on the style (cargo shorts shouldn't end much above the knee) and fashion trends. Leg proportions and overall height also are factors.

Did the trend of male capris in Europe die down yet?

I've been having similar problems with shorts. They are just plain ugly in my view, but I need to find a pair or two. I was in central Canada a few days ago and was suffering through the 35C with light denim. I didn't bring any shorts (save for swimming trunks) and when I off my jeans they were actually damp throughout the seat. There is a point where it is simply insufferable to wear jeans and unstylish shorts start to look very nice. I think I'll choose light weight pants like linen over shorts though.

wow, what's with all the shorts hate. i for one love shorts especially in the heat of the summertime and don't care what the sartorialists say.

if i'm bumming around town, it's cargos.

if i want to go a little more upscale, it's linen.

and if i want something a little more fashion forward, it's my Prada madras shorts.

Yeah, if I'm bumming around I pretty much live in cargo shorts (this being southern california, this is true year-round).

Stylish shorts?

They don`t exist. Any man wearing shorts in public does not have style in my opinion.

If you`re looking for swim wear, I think all the designer brands have a small selection. Also, makers like Borrelli, Loro Piana, etc have high quality offerings.

Thom Browne? Those weren't shorts.

I think shorts can definitely be fashionable!

You guys are ridiculous. It's the goddamn summer, everyone and their mother is wearing shorts when they aren't wearing a suit.

yeah i live in an eternal summer, I wear shorts a lot. It's circumstance-dependent like anything else to do with dress. I wouldnt wear them to a wedding under any circumstances as posted yesterday, I wouldnt wear them at work, and I dont wear them out at night. However I do elevate them above beach-and-sports-use-only, and will happily while away an afternoon at a cafe with a newspaper in my cargos.

more importantly, are black shorts appropriate for business?

not EVERYONE has style either

It`s not really a big deal, but the ridiculous part to me is that shorts don`t really make you cooler (I mean temperature wise) compared to wearing full length pants. Look at those pictures posted by funk_soul_brother...those looks are not going to bring down the temperature any more than wearing full length pants.

no more mothers walking around in shorts please!

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with that... while certainly you can wear long pants that are cool (linen or silk blends, especially), shorts in the same material are going to be cooler for the most part.
