If you caught me while I was leaving work you wouldn't expect me to care about gothy runway fashion. So just because someone isn't dressed interestingly or exceptionally well, doesn't mean they aren't into fashion.

Absolutely, clothes can speak for a person. It's true that in some cases they hardly say anything, but even that usually indicates a little, such as laziness or conformity. Elements of clothing that send messages include color and fit. Obviously, the overall style (like emo) sends the loudest message. There has been a little research conducted, based on photographs, that verifies the clothing-personality connection. Doing that here (in some sub-forum) might be fun.
