Clothes: Your voice before you've spoken... really?

How much truth do you think there is to this statement? Obviously as this is a style forum I recon the majority here will say that being well dressed improves people's perceptions of you, but what does the way somebody dresses actually tell you about that person? (or rather what do you think it tells you?)

How a person dresses tells you how they see themselves, nothing more.

It doesn't tell you as much as we would like to think. I'm not gay, for one thing.

What about a person's SF avatar? Bcuz Uncontrol's avatar makes me think that he's got a cackle that would creep the f$%^ out of even Charles Manson, and that tagutcow has a thing for fat chicks. How far off am I?

Usually tells next to nothing. Many people don't really pay attention to what they wear, and lots of people are dressed by their friends/girlfriends. I know people who are interesting and intelligent people who dress terribly. People who don't care about clothes don't usually notice unless you're dressed pretty outlandishly. scribbles: what does my avatar say about myself lmao

I don't usually judge people on what they're wearing asides for people who wear clothes along the lines of Ed Hardy/Christian Audigier and such. Then again, I know a few people who are interesting and wear that type of crap.

Probably one of the biggest things people can tell is whether or not you're homeless. Probably not always true, but most of the time.

I will take this thread seriously.

It depends really, here in NYC a lot of my friends personal style is very representative of their lifestyle choices. I have on friend I "indulge"(no homo) with and relax with, he wears exclusively Ann Demeulemeester and Number Nine. A lot of people's personal style will tell you a lot about their personality, but not everyone.

There is quite a bit of truth to this.

Usually all I can get out of it is how much they care about how they look. Used to think I could tell if they'd be an interesting person to talk to and be friends with but unfortunately my predictions weren't much more accurate than guessing.
