Question for drink/wine connoisseurs.

Thread Starter
I just turned 21, but I'm not celebrating my birthday for another week or two. Now that I can legally drink, I thought it would be interesting to start a drink collection that I'll have for later down the road; this might be a nice present to ask for from my parents or something. I like beer and wine, but I also want to start trying some harder drinks.

Which brand drinks and/or from what year do you guys recommend I get to start a small collection? And what are some good links about starting a drink/wine collection and how to maintain it?

Sorry if this thread sounds weird, but I just think it would be interesting to collect drinks - just like it's interesting to collect watches and pocket squares.

1) Hard to suggest anything without knowing what you like.
2) Problem with a drink collection is that it is ephemeral. The idea is, after all, to enjoy drinking what you have.
3) Lots of threads on the topic of how to stock your own bar.

I suggest reading the bourbon thread. Lots of good information in there.

If you want something to collect, get some recent vintage port and let them age for a decade or two.

Find out what you really like before stocking up.

Also, it's my understanding that bottled spirits don't benefit from aging. Wines can improve with cellaring as well as some types of beer.

At that age, I was scraping together my change to buy the cheapest beer I could find to bring to a party. No way would I be thinking of starting a cellar. YMMV however.

You also must keep in mind that your tastes will be significantly different in a few years.
