I injured my AC joint a few weeks ago doing more weight on the incline with dumbells than I should have. I now have a small bump on my left joint, and it hurts if I try to lift 80-90% of what I could have before. I've rested it for about 3 weeks now (no weight lifting). It's better, but there's still pain if I stretch my arm out too much. How much longer do I need to wait? Do I need surgery? Keep in mind, I have no pain for the vast majority of my daily movements.

This was a gift from my boss. I kept it for a few months before I just sold it. It is pretty solid. Made in USA. You can't beat the quality. If I needed a sterling silver money clip I would buy a...

I just picked this up and I am pretty pleased. Just what I expected. I am pleased with the Bark. However, I wish it was a little darker. A great deal for $35. Comparable to other belts in the...

AC joint injury

You shouldn't be waiting long after initial trauma and after icing. You should be mobilizing it, doing stability excercises, lots of non-iritating cardio to get the blood flowing, and light resistance excersises that avoid pain. Only then will you be able to get back to anywhere near what you were doing before.
Without stability exercises and light-weight resistance to work around the injury you can sit on that injury for a year or two.
You should also see a doctor, if you haven't already (and if the doctor just gives you a prescription for voltaren, see another doctor).

Like the other poster said, see a doctor. I have both sprained my AC joint and last year I completely separated it, both happened when snowboarding. Invest in resistance bands and work with those to help with stability, you should be able to find the movements online. That is basically what the Physical Therapist would prescribe. If you needed surgery, you would know it, my collar bone was sticking up about 2 inches out of place and I could wrap my fingers almost around it entirely.
