^ I think it's because 1) they look absolutely massive, like size 46+ and 2) they way they're tied is weird - wider at the toe and narrower at the top.

Thought about the GATs but the hassle factor seemed a bit too high. Needed a basic white low for shorts jeans etc. Went with these Tigers, seem to be working out OK:
