Iced Coffee

Does anyone here make iced coffee? What's the best way to do it?

I just made some for the first time, simply by making coffee in my moka pot, adding a bit of sugar, and then pouring it into a mug full of ice. This was quick and easy, and it tastes pretty good, but is there a better way to do it? It seems like a nice thing for summer.

If it's a hot day at work, I'll just throw some ice in a coffee cup and put it under the Keurig. Done.

I saw a wikihow on cold brewing, which is supposed to make a very smooth brew, but I haven't tried it. I usually drink my coffee hot and black :somebody: and if I have any left over in the Chemex or whatever, I'll stick it in the fridge and use it for iced later.

In all honesty, I find it hard to tell the difference between good and bad iced coffees, whereas hot coffee has a whole plethora of tastes for me. I don't know why.

The good iced coffees I've had usually include a shot of espresso to help combat the watering down effect of the ice. Simple syrup>>>>>sugar for iced coffee, Splenda/Equal when in a pinch as it's powdery and dissolves easily.

I generally do it by making a double espresso in a large cup or a tall glass then adding milk and sugar. I don't add ice, however, so I think this is more 'cold' coffee than iced. It's great for hangovers...

tried it, was very disappointing.

Would this be similar to Thai coffee? If so, it's amazing.

For iced, I go New Orleans style which is cold brewing for about 12 hours using a blend of coarse ground coffee and some chicory. You filter out the grounds and you'll have a concentrated coffee mix that you pour into ice, add a bit of sugar, and add milk (and water, if you want) to dilute it down. Since it is not heated and has chicory, you get a milder, less acidic coffee with lower caffeine, but it's damn good. Using hot water then icing can change the flavor of the coffee, which is why I prefer this method if I know I'm going to want some iced coffee. Also, the concentrate can last about 2 weeks in the fridge, so I usually make a batch to keep when the weather starts warming up so I don't need to wait 12 hours when I have a craving.

ive tried making iced coffee, it's always been like watered down coffee , sugar, and the cream all sort of separate in taste. the sugar is hard to dissolve in those. i never like making them, sort of meh.

so the only thing i do is just get one from the store like coffee bean or even mdonalds. tastes better. i m sure mcdonalds put some artofical crap in there but hey, it's tasty
