Bernie Ecclestone, President and CEO of the Formula One Group stated: "For the first time in the history of Formula One in the United States, a world-class facility will be purpose-built to host the event. It was thirty years ago that the Formula 1 United States Grand Prixâ„¢ was last held on a purpose-built permanent road course circuit in Watkins Glen, NY (1961-1980), which enjoyed great success. Since then, Formula One has been hosted by Long Beach, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix all on temporary street circuits. Indianapolis joined the ranks of host cities in 2000 when they added a road course inside the famed oval. Lewis Hamilton won the last Formula 1 United States Grand Prixâ„¢ in 2007, signalling the end to eight years at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This however, will be the first time a facility is constructed from the ground up specifically for Formula One in the US."

me neither. very interested in the where/who/how of building the track. and the who's gonna go, too.

America likes her left turns.

It won't happen, but on the off-chance it does I'll go.

Hell, I'd be happy just to see Texas get a great road track. F1, CART/Indy (or wait, do they both only run ovals now?), smaller events, maybe even snag a NASCAR road race.

Where are they going to find $200-300 million, the piece of land, and the time to build a specialized track facility in 2 years?

If they happen to accomplish the above, consider me there.

Wahoo Texas!

I'd like to see more street races as of now its just Monaco and Australia? Go back to phx, LV, or long beach.

lol, kinda random place to put it and I say that as a native Austinite. My guess it will be somewhere in the flat cheap part East of town.

Apparently, the mayor and CofC didn't even know about it. LOL. They're probably going to build another boring racetrack, too --- a total waste of space. If they held it at Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, Sears Point, or another natural terrain course, that would have been something else.

Tavo Hellmund, managing partner of race promoter Full Throttle Productions, said the Austin track and grandstand would be built "within 10 miles" of the Austin airport. Hellmund said the track will be at least 3 miles long. He declined to release further details, including the size of the grandstand and total cost.

I'm skeptical of Laguna holding an F1. They've managed to pull off MotoGP for the past 5 years, but have been quite hit or miss. I've been to 4 of the past 5 and three of them were terribly organized. OTOH, maybe they've got their shit together now and can host an F1. It's still out in BFE though, and Monterey isn't big enough to be a proper host city.

The F1 should return to Indianapolis.

If they had the balls (and money) they'd build it West of town. But I know the people out there would never allow it

and with good reason.
