The poker tips and bragging thread - Page 17

Start at 5nl, and work your way up. Unless you really think you have basics down in which case I think 25nl is a good starting point. Just make sure your bankroll is sufficient for the variance.

There are people who beat 400nl at a pretty good rate still.

And there is a subtle difference between analytics and analysis, I mean analytics.

Analytics applies. Why would Pennglock take a 6mo break from poker when he could be printing $$? What could his job possibly be for him to forgo making $500k a year? Yours is the type of thinking prevalent among many of the young poker kids in college that has made me dislike poker culture. First, it's just a card game. Although there is tons of strategy, analysis, and mental stimulation (which is why it's so intriguing and fun, besides the gambling part ), I don't think it should be taken as seriously as it is. I guess it is a good choice for some people given their other options in life, but it's not just about an hourly rate for everyone.

Well, I went down over 4 buyins this weekend, so my winrate over the last year isnt looking quite as great.. Sadly most of this was my shitty/rusty play rather than var.

Originally quoted my winrate in big blinds, not pokertracker's 2x 'big bet.' My database has plenty of people at 400NL doing much better than that, with some huge winners in headsup.

Much respect to anyone who wants to grind poker full time, but I personally consider it negative life-EV.

+1

I enjoy my friendly games. Playing full time would take away the enjoyment.

Made it to 10th.

Had AK suited. A very short stack went all in, another guy who could cover me went all in as well. Debated, debated, debated. Called.

Short stack turned over AA.

Other guy turned over KK.

I was dominated.

Flop came dud A dud, all spades. Turn was another blank. River a spade. KK douchebag had the spade. Would have come out ahead on the hand except for that river.

Couldnt not call, even in a 3 way. Never thought I was going to go up against AA and KK since I was holding one of each.

^ That sucks. Was it a regular thing, or a one off tourney?

It appears to be a regular tourney, although it was my first time there.

Good camaraderie, the whole room stopped when that hand came up.

Just obvious you often play against 3 guys sitting together in the same room sharing their cards while you get you $ siphoned off

Tried it and wont ever do it again
