Sat at a 2/5 NL table for a good 9 hours for 3 nights in a row recently. Lost 700 Won 1800 Lost 500 Not bad, could have been worse. Lots of n00bs at the table.

i recommend watching the movie if you havent , if you have time. it's a campy 90s comedy movie, but it is one of nicholas cage's better movies. and sara jessica parker is actually tolerable in a movie.

Any thoughts on micro-cash limit online (.25/.50) vs. small ($3 or less) sit and go tournaments for a beginning small-timer?

I consider 50NL to be more similar to small stakes rather than micro in terms of competition level fme (unless you have access to some of the big Euro sites, they are Much easier than the American sites). Don't play 9-handed ring games online unless you want to practice patients, most online low limit 9-handed winners are too formulaic are often times resemble robots lol. If you are a winner you should def be playing 6-handed. I have nothing good to say about sng tourneys if you are looking to improve your game, even the best tourneys have shit formats

Thanks, my poker experience is a local home game that's more about drinking and bullshitting than serious play. I'll probably go down a level in stakes and look for smaller games for now.

practice patients haha didn't see that till now But yea, if you're new at online don't start out playing more than 4 tables at a time. You are still learning, thinking about every hand, and should be reviewing hand histories. Keep excessive, detailed notes along with PokerTracker software if you are really serious about playing/winning. Bankroll management is the single most important discipline that contributes to success, well that and not playing drunk lol. Whatever stakes you start out at, I would suggest playing 75k hands at that level regardless if you are winning and obv move down to insure proper BR management. I have done this nearly every time an online poker discussion pops up, but I would suggest visiting the 2+2 poker forums. There is a lot of knowledge in the the strategy sections (stay away from BBV and NVG, seriously DO NOT go there) I could write a lot about online poker on FTP and PS so if you have any questions get at me, but leave the strategy q's for 2+2

Yeah this was one of the main reasons I quit my last house game. They had some weird attachment to making this mandatory.

I miss my home games though. Any DC/Baltimore members want to get a low stakes thing together?
