I guess it depends on what your primary goals are. Some of my female friends have had good success with kickboxing in terms of the exercise component, and I suppose the self-defense component as well, but personally I always favor armed combat to unarmed despite my martial arts training

Although I don't have any experience with it, I've seen my grandma practice it for years. I'd recommend Tai Chi. It's like yoga with a twist.

Funny story... Jill's first boyfriend broke it off after she whacked a couple of homeruns off him. There is something wondrous about a green eyed curvy brunette who utters such phrases as "why in the hell are they running cover 2 against this $*%*$ offense?"

Further proof that God does exist and for some odd reason He likes me.

jill, I would go for krav maga - excellent for self defense, and can be an excellent cardio workout. it was basically developed to teach israeli soldiers to fight, in the shortest amount of time. so, if you are not interested in practising 4 hours a week for 2 or 3 years before you can hit somebody, krav is the way to go

(chuck - now, if you give me a good discount on some ties, I will pm jill and suggest tai chi)

ive been skateboarding since the early 90s... 14 years maybe. i still am able to skate about 12 hours a week. luckily ive not had any major injuries, so i feel better today than i did when i was 18. i know many people tho who have not been so lucky and ruined thier knees and ankles before they were old enough to drink. 19 year old kids with a limp....

Wrestling, Golf in HS.

Now in college I play baseball (not varsity, but we play against other college's non-varsity teams), tennis (still learning, I can rally with Div-1 caliber guys but wouldn't take a game off of them), softball, and other stuff whenever the opportunity is available.

Kid: Soccer Now: Tennis, Windsurfing, Jogging, tried golf a couple of times but it's not my sport, squas (don't like indoor-tennis); bike sth. like 6 mi every day I am currently in southern France (about 2 h south of Lyon) at an archaelogical excavation: i did something like hours of working with a big pick axe and shovel to dig free a wall of a medival castle that partly belonged to a roman temple from the 1. century BC. I ligted huge stones and then took the trowel to do the real work and kneeling in uncomfortable positions... Then I went running up some of the hills in the area. Oh, the dig is on top a steep mountain- I will sleep very well tonight...

Soccer and skatebording. skating back in the day of dogtown and first generation krytonics polyurethane wheels.

Cross country in HS, but since I was low man on jv, this is more of an embarrassment than a sport...

Baseball 3rd-7th grade.

Soccer 3rd until 11th grade then just some intermurals stuff in college.

Racquetball from age 13 or so on. As a junior player I was somewhat successful, winning regional doubles for 18-and-under (region=washington, oregon, idaho, w. montana, I think). I also played in graduate school for the uni since I hadn't used any NCAA eligibility before. Haven't played much in the last 5 years or so. After my shoulder is fixed maybe I can start again.

I participate in beer pong. As well as a friendly game of quarters.

Actually I really like golf, and played football as a young 'un. I also played baseball during my freshmen year.

Have started playing soccer two nights a week ... am absolutely loving it. I get bored very quickly running on a treadmill ... this way i am getting the cardio i need, and enjoying it too. Yeah.

I'm actually currently searching out a sport thats sufficiently snooty and exclusionary by nature. I'm thinking about Polo. I used to be on the Track & Field team (Long and Triple Jump) in High School.
