I have just moved to the D.C. area ans was wondering what are the good shopping places in the area. I haven't found a thread about it.

I know Farinelli's is in Arlington.

What other noteworthy places are in the region?

Thanks

I really haven't bought much locally in awhile.

Farinelli's no longer has a brick and mortar store, although Mauro is doing some MTM now so you I think you can contact him and set up an appt.

Friendship Heights has a good Bloomingdales, a Barney's Co-op, and an OK Saks, in addition to big RL, J Crew, and Brooks Brothers locations and a Filene's at which I've never seen anything good ever.

Georgetown has Lost Boys, an even bigger J Crew, Urban Outfitters, another co-op, another big polo store, etc.

14th street has Redeem, I guess. Adams Morgan has Commonwealth for streetwear stuff, and For the Greater Good for grown-ass man streetwear.

If you like trad stuff, there's a J Press downtown, and an Alden store.

Not much going on these days, I'm afraid. The styleforum retail directory has some of these on a map, but it should be updated.

at wisconsin and m, if you walk down you will see rugby and the former shell of rrl, walk north there is a a gap, ralph lauren store, diesel, puma/tretorn, a reiss, adidas, commander salamander (again, don't bother), and various other non-chain stores that probably aren't worth checking out. further up wisconsin is sky shoes, which some MC'ers swear by. they sell alden, c&j, edward green, and other high-end shoes. you can find lanvins and high-end sneakers at solbiato, which is the only thing they carry worth buying.

off 14th street is redeem, a slightly-goth ninja boutique that carries wrath arcane, some 3sixteen, hyden yoo, apolis, and b. son amongst others. they're really nice folks too. there is also pulp, a fun novelty shop with great cards, and above that is rue 14, which sells gant, penguin, naked & famous, and mostly bland brands.

there is also universal gear near gourmet chocolate store ackc. UG is gay-owned and operated and carries decent underwear and socks. the clothes are meh.

in downtown there is an H&M at 11th and F st NW that is really good and huge, they get the proper H&M men's line, not just the L.O.G.G./Divided collection, and a zara right next to it. american apparel is across the street. there is also a banana republic on 13 and F, and a filene's basement on 14th and F. also worth checking out is alden at 10th and F.

in farragut north, around 16th/connecticut and M, you'll find another filene's basement, gap, thomas pink, burberry, and brooks brothers. usually decent selection. church's shoes is here as well as j. press.

chevy chase: chevy chase is further up wisconsin ave. you will have to drive as it is WAY up there, past tenleytown, american university, et. al. here is where you will find plenty of high end shopping. the saks 5th avenue men's store and bloomingdale's have really good selections usually, this bloomie's gets billy reid, prorsum, and other fairly limited collection. the saks carries dior, gitman, and other good stuff.

there is another gap, a barney's coop, a j. crew, a ralph lauren store, louis vuitton, and a filene's basement where you can sometimes run across margiela, loden dager, and other barney's co-op throwaways.

northern va: south moon under, a shitty boutique, is in clarendon along with a mixture of alt bro and regular bro bars, denim bar is in pentagon row, near pentagon city, a mall with a j. crew, club monaco, clarks, and a great microcosm for capitalism at its finest.

if you want to go to a mall, go to tyson's corner center. the j crew is in tyson's galleria, a separate mall with higher-end stores located in proximity to the first building. in the first mall is gap, martin + osa (only one in the area), an h&m, urban, and little else.

fair oaks mall sucks.
