Why don't people at SF like Hugo Boss?

"Why don't people at SF like Hugo Boss?"

I bought two pairs of Orange lable "jeans" at retail, both ripped at the crotch in under a year in the same place. Brought them to a local HB store and they just stared at me. So I'm a bit sour grapes about that...

Are we really heading into a more relaxed tailored look?

It's sensational bullshit like this I have an issue with. Somehow, millions and millions of other HB clients don't seem to complain of pants exploding after 12 wears. The label would go bankrupt inside of a year. Here is a tip: Stop playing tackle football & digging ditches in your dress pants. I never paid more than $30 for a pair of dress pants, prior to 2009. I have never had pants "go bad" after 3 months. (What is that, 12 wears?) In fact, I have had $30 dress pants last for years of corporate office wear. These are the same people who will claim their cheap shoes "exploded" after wearing them 3 times. Gee, I pretty much wore $50 dress shoes for 2 decades, and never had this happen either. Funny how people buy $5 sneakers and never have this happen either. These people can't identify 1/2 canvassed vs full if you paid them. Do a search for a laugh. Pinching lapels? Give me a break. The vast majority of suits that are sold are fused, yet I have never seen a single person wearing a "bubbled out" suit b/c a drop of water fell on it. The best things you will learn here is that "fit is everything" and style ideas (pairings, etc) Focus on that. Not labels and names. Cost has almost nothing to do with dressing well, and getting compliments We've already established that everything is made in sweatshops anyway. And above poster was right. A slave to Brioni, et al is really no different than a slave to Prada, D&G, etc. Here is the best fashion tip you will ever get: Define, in your own terms, what "value" means. Some peoples' main objective in life is to be poor & broke. Let them enjoy their fantasy.

Well said. If you like A&S ofcourse you won't like anything Boss or Prada related.

Actually what I am going to do when I get a chance is post photos of me in HB, Canali, Zegna, and a MTM and all those here who think HB makes the worst crap in the universe at any price will identify properly all 4 or at least the HB! (keep in mind all will have been adjusted by my tailer and none of the 3 OTR will have been purchased full price)

what do you think?

What are you trying to prove? That people can't tell different brands from pictures? If that's all you're looking for, then why not go even cheaper than Hugo Boss?

For the record, HB is a great value when bought on sale.

There are many threads floating around where people have posted what they looked like and wore before they found SF...its not pretty.

For the record: things SHOULD be a great value when they are deeply discounted.

Some of this is more of a hypersensitivity to the issues. There are lots of people walking around with bubbly fusing on their jackets...they just don't care (or more likely the other aspects of the fit/look are so far off that some bubbling is not even noticed). It is just that once you have figured out how to get everything else right (fit, colors, matching)...issues like bad fusing start to stand out.

Same goes for corrected grain leather shoes...you could easily just assume that that's just what leather looks like--people with good looking shoes must just be buying a lot of new shoes to avoid the buildup of crinkle-creases. Now that SF has given me an eye for it, I wouldn't touch a pair of CG shoes...I would still consider buying a pair of cheap black beaters if the shape was good and they were NOT CG (like my old rockports) but lately CG seems more and more common since people don't want to bother with shoe shines.

If you post new ones it's hard to tell teh difference. If you post two pairs with equal wear at say 6 months you can tell by the cracking/creasing of the leather. It should be very very obvious.

Except in formal business attire I think we are. More and more I am offered jackets with little or no lining and a very soft shoulder with little or no padding. It isn't the droopy late 80's -early 90's look, it is a snug yet softer look than the structured padded shoulder of the early 2000's. Maybe relaxed is the wrong word. Perhaps softer is more accurate.

There are exceptions. Tom Ford is still pushing a sharp shoulder. There will always be guys who want as much shoulder as money can buy.

Hugo Boss. I would say this is crisp:

Prada. I would say a bit softer:

I like them both. I almost bought a beautiful green tweed HB suit when I was at Filene's in Aventura last month....I kinda regret letting it go.

Well, as long as it doesn't make my shoulders BIGGER, I don't mind a sharp shoulder.

I like all kinds of looks. I don't restrict myself to one look. To me, it is all good.

exactly.

reev, refer to the discussion around your epic post on why buy anything but a $20 belt at target. exactly the same points apply here. if you didn't buy the logic then, you won't here either, and you might as well /thread.

i have to ask, though: do you own a pair of really good shoes to serve as a reference point for this entire discussion? i'm asking the question not as a snob, but to make the basic point that to appreciate differences between good and bad, or very good and passable, you need to have experienced the very good. for example, someone who doesn't know wine will very well question why they should buy anything but the $10 bottle they can get at their grocery store "because they all taste the same to me". but once you have tried the good stuff and built an eye / appreciation for the details that previously may have eluded you, it's hard to preserve the same perspective.
