I'm thinking about getting this shaving set at Amazon, but since I'm relatively new at this I'm not sure. I've seen the same running for at least $80 dollars more on different stores. Thanks. http://www.amazon.com/Shaving-Merkur...4471583&sr=8-1

This was a gift from my boss. I kept it for a few months before I just sold it. It is pretty solid. Made in USA. You can't beat the quality. If I needed a sterling silver money clip I would buy a...

I just picked this up and I am pretty pleased. Just what I expected. I am pleased with the Bark. However, I wish it was a little darker. A great deal for $35. Comparable to other belts in the...

Is this shaving set a good deal?

I'd be worried about leaving fingerprints all over the brush handle and bowl.
The razor can be bought alone for around $30. A good brush can be found for $30 to $50. I've never cared for Col. Conk shave soap, and you can get a good soap like Mama Bear's (which I haven't used) or Prorazo (which I have) for $10 or so. Bowls and stands run for $10 to $20 each. Of course, you might not get everything perfectly matched, but you might find that each piece is better quality than the overall set.
You should look for reviews on Badger and Blade and see what you find.

ill quote my response from the same question you posted in the "Ask a Question..." section;
You can do better for as much or less..
Merkur HD (#34c) is a classic and one of the best starter razors in terms of ease of learning without hacking up your face...$35
Get a large/wide mouth espresso porcelain cup at target for $5
get a starter package of blades (maybe west coast shaving, for example) $15
Until you know what your doing, you cant beat a Crabtree and Evyln "Best" Badger brush for $30. If you cant find them anymore, search out an Edwin Jagger model...(actually the ones who made the C&E version) for a few bucks more.
If you want a stand, it will cost a little, but you can find them here and there for ~25.
Figure out if you like soap or creams...to get you going, try proraso green...also sold by Bath and Body Works under their CO Bigelow brand...green tube $5...best all around cream ever (if your using a brush).
Drop by http://badgerandblade.com/ to learn more than you ever wanted to know.

$35 for the same Merkur --or consider buying the Merkur Slant instead. Same price.
$50 for a nice badger brush.
A couple of bucks for a teacup.
$5 for a little stand if you must.
$10 will get you your choice of good soaps.
...I'm guessing that the kit you link to has a skimpy brush. That's where they're making their profit. Buy a good brush and you won't regret it. Cheap brushes suck.

Its too expensive! I use a very economical one (I will not name it otherwise you guys will think I am spamming the forum) but seriously, it is too expensive. I could buy a around 5 sets with what I am using right now and could still save more. Its just a shaving set though. It doesn't have to be that expensive and a man shouldn't be spending that much for a thing. You could even just use a simple blade to shave your beard.
