Ties

I need help purchasing ties. I am not picky when it comes to style, however, I would prefer a good quality tie.

How would I identify a good quality tie? I have seen so many on the shelves. Someone told me to alway stick so silk woven ties. I am not 100% sure what that is.

Perhaps you guys can provide some advice?

You may want to try the search function.

P.S. Carlo Franco's ties are the way to go.

I'm not really very knowledgeable, but here is what I look for in a tie:

1. Thickness of material and lining. It has to be thick enough, but not too thick. It's a matter of your personal preference on how big do you want the knot to be.

2. I lay the tie flat on my hand and see how the think end hangs. It shouldn't curve at all, otherwise when you tie it won't hang straight down.

Those 2 points are usually enough for me to find an acceptable tie. I can't always claim that I bought a high-quality tie, but at least I know it will look good on me, and that's the most important part.

As far as material goes, I like all different kinds of materials for ties. Don't limit yourself to silk.

OP,

I started a company made for people like you that are dissatisfied with the majority of ties they come across. My ties are made of 100% silk with a wool interlining; the wool is not common among popular ties but it offers a substantial and soft feel. Currently we specialize in Charleston-themed tie, but really any gentleman can wear them and look excellent.

I suggest you take a look at my website www.charleston-carriage.com and peruse the selection.

Good luck sir

THIS HAS TO STOP. Ban charleston ties. Stop brining up posts from 2003. people are no longer checking decade old posts for their answers. stop.

I'm no expert on ties, but I'm quite sure this is incorrect. Most good lined ties are lined with wool. Of course, if by 'popular' you mean 'cheap and crap', then those may well use polyester lining instead, but nobody on here buys cheap ties.

Somewhere around here Digmenow has compiled a set of links to specific issues such as this. I'll send up the Bat Signal.

To the Batcave? Click on my signature, below. The only problem is that original post got trashed in the forum changeover. I think I got it fixed, though. Maybe I'll start to update it again, now that it's working.
